Think the greatest guitarist of all time deserves a thread. Anyone on here listen to either of John’s solo albums?

I did back in the noughties, after listening to the Stone Roses I segued into Ian & John's solo albums. "Time changes everything" & "Marshall's house" are fine but John's not a great singer. I ought to give 'em another listen.
Ian Brown had a few solo hits with more melodic/danceable stuff, Squire ploughed a completely different furrow which couldn't trouble the charts.

One of the biggest The Stone Roses fans of all time but even I didn’t like his 2 solo LP’s much though TBH I’ve not heard them for years. Easily the best guitarist of his generation IMO and easily one of the best ever with Hendrix, page. And the best songwriter of all time with Lennon, McCartney, brown, Noel G

Better IMO though I still love Marr. I like Marr’s solo songs too. Seems a top lad

I really like Squire song writing on the early stuff. And some of second coming. But come on. He is a weak song writer since 1993. He’s like a Clapton meets Hendrix from a playing pov. Not overly innovative. But really good. As a song writer, a bit like Lee Mavers. Lightening struck. Once.

Better IMO though I still love Marr. I like Marr’s solo songs too. Seems a top lad I actually believe Marr is even more over rated vs Squire. From 83-87 he was perfect. Literally. But since he’s really boring. And now believes his own hype which I find a put off. From the 80s, he is in a pack with Stuart from big country, the dude from Echo, Edge, the Simple Minds dude. Similar new age stylings. But he is the one people talk about. Then there are all of the American guitarist from the era: Slash and the rest. I’m not a Slash fan, but to my ears, he is a more versatile interesting and unique guitar player than Squire who is really good at sounding like his heroes.

John Squire is better than Johnny Marr not even close One is a blues player. The other is a dynamic player. Squire shreds better. I much much prefer the Gretsch Squire vs the Les Paul Squire.

Any Marr interview is like this: Totally unintelligible Somehow is believes Boomslang is a dance/ American style record. Really? It’s an Oasis knock off. And was designed to be. He even wore parkas etc. the dude isn’t very smart. But wants us to believe he is some sort of intelligenciaa.

IMO the greatest LP I’ve ever heard is the stone roses debut, the best 4 songs of all time are I am the resurrection, she bangs the drums, love spreads, made of stone. So even though the Beatles did more great songs than the roses, the roses best songs exceed that of the Beatles

The Second Coming and Seahorses "Page" era of him is a guilty pleasure. However he was a far better musician with his textured soundscapes during the Silvertone label years.
