Alright fellow Oasis nerds, as I've already threatened you with it, I thought I might as well post it. Here's my humble attempt at an
recording sessions chronology for Don't Believe The Truth.
Like I said, due to all the confusions surrounding the making of this album, it's not easy to comprehend what exactly happened where and when and with whom. However, I've tried to work my way through the (luckily quite detailed) album and single credits, A LOT of interviews and A WHOLE LOT more of Google research.
I'll warn you beforehands, all of the following is, for the most part, pure ASSUMPTION and SPECULATION and these bits and pieces has been puzzled together from sometimes quite obscure sites (anyone remembers Kathy's Zak Oasis site? What a goldmine it is for this purpose). Moreover, apologies for almost not giving any sources for the loose notes and quotations. You will probably be able to trace them down if you just Google excerpts of it. It's mostly stuff that's been written and said that I've been just collecting in a really rough copy & paste manner for a while now.
If you're looking for an easy entry into the recording mess that is Don't Believe The Truth (what happened ecactly with DIV in Cornwall? Why Dave Sardy? Why Zak Starkey? etc.), try to look for a lenghty and insightful interview Noel and Gem gave to XFM in May 2005, it should be somewhere on Youtube. Please be free to diss me off, in that case I just ask for reasonable corrections as well. And no, I'm actually quite busy besides being an Oasis fan and I do have an intact social life, somehow.

- "I've got about five songs done, Liam's got about six, and Gem's got a couple."
- 10 songs that they thought were pretty good, 4 on DBTT, 6 not even good enough for b-sides
- Turn Up The Sun and Keep The Dream Alive were demoed together by Andy Bell, A Bell Will Ring demoed on tour in Australia/October 2002
- Around ten songs were worked on with Death In Vegas of which, according to Noel, six were "not even good enough to make the b-sides".
- "We've done a bunch of really ****ing good demos and we put together a running order of what we thought the album was gonna be and we whittled it down to ten tracks."

Drums by Zark Starkey. Drums on Lord Don’t Slow Me Down by Terry Kirkbride.
- Lyla and TIBIO pretty much the released versions.
- After a short break in which many new songs, including “Love Like A Bomb”, “The Importance Of Being Idle”, “Guess God Thinks I’m Abel”, “Part Of The Queue”, "Let There Be Love (written in 1998, finished in DIV pause)" and "Lyla" were written, the band reconvened at their Wheeler End Studios with Noel as producer.
- In June 2004, Oasis debuted two new songs from these sessions, the Liam-written "The Meaning of Soul" and the Gem-written "A Bell Will Ring".
- Noel explained that they started out recording the album with Death In Vegas, but ran out of time due to DIV's other commitments. So they then tried to combine that material with other demo material they had done already, but that didn't work. Then they were just going to release the demos. But because they had Alan drumming on them, that would have been a problem. Then they thought they'd just get Zak to drum on the demos that were already done, but that didn't sound right as the drums were going on last. Which led straight to the 'f*** it, we're starting from scratch' approach. Noel said they never completely scrapped it, but during all this time, more and more songs were being written, so there was more to choose.
- 14 days only, scrapped again.
- "A Couple of months" break afterwards, while waiting for Zak Starkey finishing his tour with The Who.
Songs that I couldn't allocate to any session, but that -might- have been attempted during the DBBT sessions at this point or later

• A Bell Will Ring (Leaked CD 2008?)
• Love Like A Bomb (Leaked CD 2008?)
• Turn Up The Sun (Leaked CD 2008?)
Notes:
- Manager Marcus Russell met Sardy, sent him tracks to mix, sounded like ‘Frankenstein’.
- “We sent Sardy a few tracks of this cobbled-together stuff to mix and he sent them back and it didn't sound right. So we've started from scratch bar one song [Mucky Fingers].”
- Dave Sardy expressed interest in taking over production duties. Sardy was given tapes of existing recording sessions to mix, and after his work was praised by the band, he arrived in the UK to oversee new recording sessions at Olympic Studios in London. These sessions did not last long before he asked the band to travel to Los Angeles and re-record most of the album there.
- We have got four tracks down but there is still another six or seven to do. "We've spent almost a year recording but we haven’t got the sound right — but the songs are good."
- “We've finished about 4 tracks now, so I think , hopefully in an ideal world we'll have a single out by the end of the year but it's probably looking like it'll be Feb next year.”
- We’ve written 66 songs, the majority of which I can’t believe our kid’s done. I’ve only written 14 of them. He’s done most of the rest of them."
- 2 weeks of recordings.
- Drums by Zak Starkey.

Notes:
- Some songs might have been attempted or demoed before, certainly more has been recorded.
- Recording sessions began at Capitol Studios in October 2004 with the band spending around 9 weeks there.
- In late October, the Gallaghers were spotted out and about in LA. Apparently some recording did take place of at the Capitol Building, while the majority of the stay was spent mixing and overdubbing at Village Recording Studios.
- "The album’s finished. We recorded it three times. It’s been a major pain in the arse but it’s come out really good"
- 9 weeks spent in Los Angeles including 3-4 weeks of mixing.
- 11 songs left over that were very good.
- Oasis have 66 songs vying for a place on their sixth studio album, due out early next year.
- Noel revealed that he still has 25 songs left from the sessions for ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’, and suggested that that will mean he won’t have to “any more work for the next few years”. These songs include the much talked-up ’Stop The Clocks’, of which Noel has now tired, revealing, “There are so many versions of that song now we could put it out as an EP on its own!”
- Noel recently explained that he had four “great” songs left over from the ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’ sessions.
- Drums by Zak Starkey.
