It's an ok album, but for a band like Oasis "an ok album" isn't enough, I really like some songs but overall it is just ok.
The difference between DBTT and the other albums is that the songs were all built on acoustic guitars instead of electric guitars, so there is more of an acoustic feeling to it, it doesn't sound as powerful as their other albums for better or for worse.

While I wouldn't put it on the same level of the 90's albums I think it's a very strong effort. It's the band acknowledging the old magic won't come back and trying to redefine what is Oasis in the year 2005. And the sound really suited them back then.
Sure I would've liked more Noel penned songs, less LAG inputs and a better voice from Liam on live performances. But I think it's a great era of the band.

'The Importance of Being Idle' is certainly 'best of' worthy and sits comfortably along with the 'Definitely Maybe' & '(WTS)MG?'. After that there's a bit of a downturn but 'Part of the Queue' and 'Lyla' are both solid. The latter made for an annoying catchy single in a similar way 'Roll With It' did 10 years earlier. 'Turn Up The Sun', 'Mucky Fingers', 'Let There Be Love', 'Guess God Thinks I'm Abel' and 'Love Like a Bomb', were all alright but they were the minimum I'd have hoped for from an Oasis album. 'Keep The Dream Alive', 'A Bell Will Ring' and 'The Meaning of Soul' were all b-side worthy in my book. Not poor but not strong enough for an album proper.
Overall I'd say it's a more consistent listen than 'Heathen Chemistry' but it's lack of true highs keeps me from returning to it all that much. It's at least 2 good songs short.
The Importance of Being Idle - 9 Part of the Queue - 8 Lyla - 8 Turn Up the Sun - 7 Mucky Fingers - 7 Let There Be Love - 7 Guess God Thinks I'm Abel - 7 Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders - 7 Love Like A Bomb - 7 Lord Don't Slow Me Down - 6 Can Y'See It Now? (I Can See It Now!!) - 6 Keep The Dream Alive - 6 A Bell Will Ring - 6 The Meaning Of Soul - 6 Eyeball Tickler - 5 Pass Me Down The Wine - 4 Sittin' Here In Silence (On My Own) - 3 Won't Let You Down - 3 The Quiet Ones - 2

I won't stand for this slander of A Bell Will Ring, people. I won't!
My favorite Oasis album is whatever one I'm listening to at the time. Or, for a maybe more helpful metric, I probably listen to this one as much as WTSMG.
As far as I'm concerned, this was the last album they released.

I had completely forgotten about The Meaning of Soul. Such a bad song - and badly recorded too. THE WHEATIES THOUGH AND THE SPOONS Is this serious? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Let's take a look at this album once again.
I never disliked Meaning of Soul, I think it's fine as a little interlude in the album, certainly nothing awful like Ain't Got Muffins. Generally I think Liam's songwriting on this is at its strongest, Meaning of Soul gives the album a little bite and Love Like A Bomb and Guess God Thinks I'm Abel offer a light breeziness to it. The latter one in particular is a favourite of mine.
Never understood the hate for Mucky Fingers either, it doesn't have that awful dad rock glam dreariness that Noel seemed obsessed with around this time (Force of bleedin' Nature, Waiting For The Rapture) and lyrically one of his better ones I think. It NEEDED Liam's voice on it though, the vocals are crying out for a venomous Liam performance. Let There Be Love... yeah good song brutally murdered by production. Not sure how they turned a potentially lovely song into something soooooooooooooooo plodding and boring. But hey, that's Sardy for you.
Keep The Dream Alive sounds like a sixth form band writing an Oasis song, and A Bell Will Ring is typical Gem Archer songwriting - i.e. shite. Apart from that, I can take everything else on the album.
So an album ruined by: (a) Not enough Noel written/Liam sung songs - come on guys, you are Oasis for a reason. (b) Horrific production choice, enough said on this. (c) Poor song choices - as sympathetic as I am towards this album, everyone knows of the songs Noel had in his locker at this time. No, there's nothing truly classic in them but there was a good batch of very very good songs going to waste.
It's a shame, because Don't Believe The Truth is probably Oasis album post-90s that had the most potential to be, not great but a really good album. Rectify these points and it would have easily, by far, been the best since Be Here Now.

Even though DBTT was regarded as the band's best effort since WTSMG, it didn't stand the test of time for me personally. Somehow lots of tunes from the album have aged rather poorly imho.

Turn Up the Sun and Eyeball Tickler are brilliant...the rest were OK at the time but I still have trouble even recalling typing this.

I used to like it and listen to it quite a lot in 2005, and also saw them live twice during the tour. But as the years passed by the I've liked it less and less. It's their second worst album. Only HC is worse. There's still TIOBI, Lyla, Turn Up the Sun, Part of the Queue and Keep the Dream Alive that are between great and good. TIOBI is a classic Noel song and the highlight.
Let There Be Love is one of the worst Oasis songs alongside Force of Nature and The Quiet Ones. How come they ended up with Sardy? Did they run out of time and options?

This is the first Oasis album release after I got into them and the vibe before/after this release on this forum was the greatest time ever. This album still has a special place in my heart.

Yeah I remember the excitement, the leak, the will Stop the Clocks make it or not discussions, the hope we had about Zak's drumming, etc. It was truly a great era.

So an album ruined by: (a) Not enough Noel written/Liam sung songs - come on guys, you are Oasis for a reason.. A million times this, for all Oasis after 2000. In fact, a combined NW/LS album is half decent - but there’s .. seven .. in a decade! - The Hindu Times - Stop Crying Your Heart Out - Lyla - Let There Be Love - Bag It Up - The Turning - The Shock Of The Lightening

Listening to LTBL makes me wanna pull my ears off. Crimes against humanity for what Noel and Sardy did to it, from the original and better demo of It's A Crime.

Easily their worst for me. Same, at least HC has SCYHO, Hindu Times, and Little By Little. Replace any of the sludge on it with Shout It Out Loud and Idler's Dream, and cut a few tracks you at least have a solid EP to work with. Also the album isn't mixed and mastered to hell and back like DBTT.

let's all make believe is another Post SOTSOG which was the last to at least cling to the classic formula! (6/10 NW/LS).

Great shout! So three album cycles, we had 8! (Or really 7.5 given N wings part of LTBL).

I disliked DBTT so much that I had little interest in the tour (which was a shame looking back) and didn’t see Oasis after 2002 (4 times in 2 years) till 2009 (and have done 16 Gallagher gigs since then).
I dislike it so much that I am convinced that ‘She is Love’ is on it.
TUTS is decent but drifts off without a proper end Lyla is ok TIOBI is good (obvs) I do regularly hum PoTQ and quite like that. …..Abel could have been really, really, really good but it builds and then stops. LTBL was better in Giants demos
The rest is tosh. Especially ‘She is Love’
