www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-66318626So so sad, what a voice and a talent she was. Bold, outspoken and never had a faint heart, all for the best. Had her fair share of tragedies but always bounced back, a terribly young age to die at 56 too. RIP.

Yeah, I've just read that, very sad indeed. I was never a massive fan of hers but her version of Nothing Compairs To U was really good and there was another good song around 1988 time which I've always liked as well. R.I.P. 56 is no age at all.

I grew up with Sinead's music; she's my mother's favourite artist of all time.
One time, my mum did a painting of Sinead, and then went to see her in Manchester. After the show, she managed to get to Sinead backstage, and the woman herself signed the painting - it's still a treasured thing. Her voice was rapturous and the spirit of her youth has been vindicated a thousand times. This song is gorgeous:

Sad, sad news - and unfortunately not unexpected

There was a documentary on TV about her that I was told to watch and I said that she's the kind of artist that I'll probably only get around to once they're dead.
This was only a few days ago, so this feels pretty weird.

Died of a broken heart I think, losing her son last year.
Did she ever sue the hospital he escaped from?

Very sad. A troubled soul her whole life, it seems. The way she dealt with the booing at Bobfest '93 was scintillating.

Sad, sad news - and unfortunately not unexpected This is the worst part about it. Feel scummy to think this way but after I heard about her son last year it was a miracle to hear she was still around. She was also poised for a comeback and began touring shortly before everything three years ago happened. Can't help but think things as a whole end differently if that never happened.

Unfortunately what Morrissey says is a phenomenon that happens every time an artist dies and it annoys me every time. I caught myself thinking "wonder which hypocrites will suddenly be a fan and call her a legend" as soon as the news broke out. By life people didn't care or call someone insane and then when they die suddenly they were great. That doesn't help anyone. They needed that support when they were alive, not now that there's no point.
I personally didn't really care for her music. My mother played one of her albums quite a lot in my youth and I never really liked it. She sang a couple of things with Peter Gabriel and sounded great on that and I recently watched a couple of interviews with her. She was quite introverted and intelligent.

It's almost impossible to own a timeless song that's been in the public domain for a hundred years but she did just that with The Foggy Dew with The Chieftains. Best ever rendition of the song. What a voice.

copy&paste of Lily Allen's tweet for non-Twitter users: I agree with this statement wholeheartedly. Like I said, this always happens. Also with normal people. When they're alive no one cares and when they die suddenly they're great. What's to gain? For both sides there's really nothing in it.
