So...it's 'classic noel' doing something that sounds like wet wet wet in the 90s which is a good thing cause at least he's not trying to be 'disco dad noel' anymore due to him getting divorced and not having to keep the wife happy, but it's still shite anyway? You guys never disappoint....still haven't heard it yet by the way...

Marketing Move = hey! I'm the old one. Average result = some mediocre A-B side in between first and second solo album.
I like it warmly

The video was literally shot 2 mins away from King's cross. NG didn't want it to be more than a half hour affair

Sounds like Travis. The vocals are great, especially the verses. But the the song itself is subpar compared to what he's released recently and it's hardly going to be kicking any doors in. 4,5/10 in the grande scheme of things In 1999 that would have been a huge compliment to sound like Travis but in 2023 it sounds like an insult.

Mediocre killed the Cosmic Pop star. Yeah, that's pretty what it looks like at the minute.

Confort zone feels stale after This is The Place, a nice guitar solo. Song sounds muffled at times.
At least the solo isn't as out of place as in The Escapist fave SMC 😂

There's many other roads he could have gone. An acoustic album, a symphonic album, a garage record, who knows. It's not just this or that. WBTM was a shock (in a good way), The EP were a nice surprise. So far, it feels like an album were Noel doesn't know where to go. This could all change with the 7 songs left. Something a rock star with a lack of inspiration would come up with.

Something a rock star with a lack of inspiration would come up with. In the fall of 2003 I wanted a Noel acoustic album produced by Nigel Godrich. Maybe a simple acoustic tour to support it kind of like his STC promotional tour. I’d be down for a garage rock record. Love when Noel is playing up a gear.

I really like Pretty Boy, and also like this song.
Neither are groundbreaking, but I'd argue they don't need to be. Although in my opinion, Pretty Boy is experimental enough for someone like Noel, without him taking it too far. I reckon this album will be an eclectic mix of the styles from the past 3 albums, with maybe a slight lean on the debut.
I'd much rather have these two songs than what we got with the EPs tbh (although the b-sides were pretty good). Also despite a few highs, WBTM was definitely still more miss than hit, so perhaps it's better if he goes back to what he's best at, melody and style-wise. He simply does not suit songs like Black Star Dancing, and This Is The Place, and the last thing we need is experimentation just for the sake of it, yielding yet more poor results. The idea of Noel doing a dance or garage record is almost cringeworthy.
I reckon this album will be great. Looking forward to it even more now!

who do people call this "classic"? there's nothing classic oasis about it. nothing. sunday morning call for example is sooooo much better. sunday morning call you could tell was written and performed by a rock star. this one could have been written and performed by james hargreaves.

Chorus memorable as heard it once and it stuck in my head. Guitar solo bloody awful. Does no one else think that? Reminds me of late 80s power ballad not in a good way. Other than that, Noel bread and butter tune could do these ones in his sleep. Not bad, not great. Casual fans and fans of easy listening will love. Can’t believe I’m saying this but prefer Pretty Boy.

I think many successful artists/musicians get to this point where they can never win as their fan base goes from teenagers to people in their 50s and beyond.
For example I really like the new song but there will be a much younger generation and another in between who want something else from him…maybe something a bit heavier or Oasis like or more experimental like WBTM.
It’s a hard task to please a fan base that covers multiple age groups and please yourself at the same time.
Fingers crossed the new album is decent 🤞🏻

I think when people talk about recreating the Oasis sound they mean more in vibe/melodies than the actual sound, and they also refer to some of the b-sides, we're not getting another Rock n Roll Star out of Noel Anyway, managed to play Easy Now proper loud and the chorus improves after every listen, it's gonna sound great live I'd still say that a track like "She Taught Me How to Fly" is closer to the classic-Oasis melodic sense of joy and passion than any of these mid-2000's style ballads that Noel's been serving up recently. I'm just not a fan of the fact that every time one of the brothers releases a bland ballad, it gets called "Oasis-y". It implies that the lasting cultural memory of Oasis is one of Stop Crying Your Heart Out / Little by Little / etc. Sad verse, big vowel chorus, etc. I get it, to an extent, those songs exist, so does DLBIA and all that, but...No! I'm not having it! This is Oasis-y! (And no, I do not want Noel to recreate this. But if he wanted to do Classic Oasis or give me "the feeling that made me fall in love with Oasis in the first place", or any of the stuff that gets said about tracks like this and Once, it would be need inspiration from things like Supersonic or Some Might Say, not anything that leads to Easy Now type stuff.) Agree with every word.

All the comments I was going to make have already been covered. There's definitely early 2000s indie/Travis vibes or a SOTSOG B-side.
It's OK. I don't dislike it, it's listenable but sounds like it's already been done a number of times over by Noel.
Much prefer this to Pretty Boy though.

He does something slightly different with "Pretty Boy" and it's too disco, he does a catchy pop/rock song with "Easy Now" and some say it's boring.

I do feel people can be a little bit harsh on here and expect too much sometimes. I've liked everything Noel's put out as a solo artist and I say that as someone who generally has been more interested in Liam in the Oasis days and beyond. I'm fine with him playing it safe or experimenting a bit, so long as the song is good, which this song is, it's not great but there aren't many 50 year old songwriters putting out great songs nowdays.
One thing I do agree with though is everyone's criticisms of Noel and his teams ability as producers/mixers whatever and some of Noel's choices when arranging a song. I do wish he'd find a good producer to work with over the long term, one who he's comfortable enough with to let them do their thing behind the desk like he did with David Holmes but who also isn't quite as restrictive with adamantly pushing Noel in a certain direction like Holmes was. Someone who will just let Noel do his thing, maybe push him a little bit at times but mainly focus on making the songs sound as good as they possibly can.

Some people have seemed to think it may be a little uninspired, standard Noel fare. I don't think that's unreasonable anymore than those that really enjoy it.
