When he says, "I don't hate you, but I despised that feeling," does he mean he despise hating the person in question, or does it mean he despise the feeling that is opposite of that-- he despise loving that person so much?

Lol I always thought he meant "I despised that feeling (of) there's nothing left for me here." But your interpretation makes sense too, I would say the latter is more probable.

I imagine it was written for him and means absolutely fuck all. But I interpreted it as 'I don't hate you (for what you did) but I despise that feeling (i.e. the feeling of what you did)'
