Liam in some current moments is very close to the timbre (not extension) that he had in 1996. First of all Mtv Unplugged: Gone, Stand By Me, Champagne Supernova etc we feel that he is the Liam of 1996 but more adult ... and this is a great achievement considering all the problems he has had and even the thyroiditis he has. For me he had a good (if different) voice until May 2002. In the period 2000- May 2002 it sounded different but it was still fantastic. Then the decline. Fortunately, today he has recovered.

2000.
Deeper, gruffier, but with control.
Identity wise, I feel he’s the sequel to that peak Liam. I can’t explain what I mean by that. I guess in consciousness there’s now Liam in early Oasis (Supersonic/Knebworth 1996), and Liam today (As It Was onwards). And the more troubled version in between is kinda not relevant.

Liam definitely has gone through a whole kaleidoscope of phases--it's part of what makes him such an exciting person to follow over time--and this phase that we were just in, this Pandemic Summer phase after more than a year off, even with its dramatic busted-face ending, has been a great one. I'm also loving the deep, gravelly tone he's had these shows which, for me, gives the songs a new weight, different from the rawer, sexier sound of 2000, but still cool.
That all said, his voice has long been more a wave than a linear curve. And people tend to overemphasize the lows. Even in the worst of times he had some really powerful performances. And aside from the early days when he was at 110% at all times, vice versa. Seems a given we will get more natural ups and downs as time goes on. Just hope that in the winter of 2023 when he's touring heavily (fingers crossed we get there), gets a cold, and has a string of rougher performances, that we don't hear again about how the wheels have come off. Time heals most throats.

I'd say since early 2000. Was always judging the merits of his 2000 voice on the mediocre Wembley gigs but just had a listen to the Jools Holland performance from early 2000 and he's on great form.
