In my opinion it is definitely the best High Flying Birds album.ย
It aged pretty well thus far, starting from the initial singles TDOYAM/IIHAG who still feel fresh, and actually I came to like some tracks more over the years (What a Life is a belter live, and it took me a while to dig Stranded on the Wrong Beach).
What I find pretty good in hindsight is that he leaves the Oasis formula for some of the songs (What A Life) but it still feels like a pretty consistent Gallagher album.
The only song that I really don't like much at all is Soldier Boys.ย (I Wanna Live in a Dream in My) Record Machine and Stop the clocks feel overproduced to me, even though they are pretty good songs.
Broken Arrow alongside Riverman is probably my favorite HGHFB song.
Chasing yesterday and WBTM had too many fillers for me. The Beady eye stuff I never really digged all that much and without opening a can of worms, LG's albums while having some good songs (once, Chinatown, wall of glass) for me fell short of this one.
What do you guys think?

I liked it at the time but I dunno when you listen back to it, it's a bit throwaway now.
AYW I think comfortably the best post-2009 album and CY my favourite NGHFB album.

Has to be Who Built the Moon for me, but NGHFB comes in at joint-second with As You Were.

Chasing Yesterday and Liam's two solo albums are the only post-Oasis albums I ever go back to. I've found his debut boring on first listen and still do, WBTM sounds great but there aren't enough songs on it and a few of them are shit.

I think yes. If NGHFB was an Oasis album, it could reach 90s heights. I don't think about it comparing to other post-Oasis stuff. The second best post-Oasis album is As You Were but there's just half of songs that can easily be Oasis hits, moreover it's very personal Liam album so... nah, not As You Were. Other stuff is good only from time to time. NGHFB has e v e r y song that could be an Oasis hit (not just lead singles as Lyla or The Hindu Times were). There's just no average song, maybe one (for me it's... looked at songlist and now I'm in doubt about Stop The Clocks and Soldier Boys). That's why having 8-9 solid songs is very emphasized thing. That's why Noel kept these songs from Oasis for good - kinda egoistic but it worked and still is.

Pros: - Some brillant songwriting. Broken Arrow, Death of You and Me, If I Had A Gun, just really good stuff. - The second half of Record Machine and the outro of Stop the Clocks. - The instrumental part in Everybody's on the Run.
Cons: - The production. IIHAG especially is dragged down by this, but the whole thing sounds surprisingly dated. - The weaker songs (Soldier Boys, Wrong Beach, Dream On) kinda blend together and plod. These two together make this an album I very rarely listen to in its entirety, unlike WBTM which definitely has equally bad filler tracks but just flows beautifully.
Beady Eye and Liam's solo stuff are nice to have but don't really interest me personally on the same level that Noel's albums do.

No definitely not. I prefer both of Liam's solo albums to anything which Noel has done solo. His only album which I truly like is Chasing Yesterday, his other two High Flying Birds is mainly boring and Who Built The Moon is ok and it has it's moments but songs like Keep On Reaching are just awful.

It came out when I was starting Uni, so I always have good memories of this album. My favourite Gallagher post Oasis album along with As You Were.

It's the รกlbum that made me recover the faith in Noel as a songwriter, after too many dissapointing years. But I think CY is better, and WBTM is better than both. I think Noel has been in top form since he left Oasis

I think it's a great song, one of his very best solo tunes. A real departure from anything he's ever written, a real soul infused banger. So much more interesting in its vibe and influences than the done to death old man Brit rock influences.

Who Built The Moon is by far the best. It's everything Noel should evolve from and the kind of people he should work with (David Holmes). The first two Noel albums are so limited and drab in comparison. After that, I'd take As You Were.
The latter half of 2017 was by far the best time I'd had as an Oasis fan for sheer quality from both brothers.

I've never been a massive fan. Chasing Yesterday and Who Built the Moon are both vastly superior imo. I think NGHFB sounds like a collection of mid-tempo Oasis songs sung by Noel, whereas he found his own sound with Chasing Yesterday and built on it with WBTM. I'd put NGHFB on par with As You Were and Why Me Why Not and would even say a 'best of' the two Beady Eye albums would match it.

recently been going back to Alone On The Rope, which was recorded during these sessions I believe. I geniunely enjoy much of the production and Noel's voice. Felt like listening to the album again and going through it track by track with my new headphones:
1. Everybody's on the Run I loved the leaked acoustic soundcheck songs from around 2008-09. This one doesn't quite work as well as a studio track. Still, the production is great with strings and choir. 6/10
2. Dream On Great pop song singalong chorus. Classic Noel pop. Can't go wrong with that. 8/10
3. IIHAG Works much better in the studio than EOTR. 8/10
4. TDOYAM Very pleasant production with the organ and acoustic guitar. Actually a nice break from the muddy guitars on the previous tracks. And there's a brass solo before the final chorus. Very odd song which sounded like nothing Noel had done before. 9/10
5. IWLIADIMRM Always wanted BHN-era Liam to sing this. 5/10
6. AKA.. What a life Noel Dance pop. Can't go wrong with that. 8/10
7. Soldier Boys I must be the only one liking this song. It's clearly Noel doing 60s pop with a modern twist. Again, love the brass. 8/10
8. Broken Arrow Noel pop. Enough said. Obliously Wonderwall's cousin. 9/10
9. Stranded On The Wrong Beach been going back to this one too. Maybe I'm the only fan of this song here as well? 8/10
10. Stop The Clocks always found this song to be very average, but I still enjoy the outro. 6/10
11. Simple Game of Genius I remember this song blowing me out of the water, because I did not expect it to sound like that. Reminds me a little bit about Flashbax. 9/10

Cool first post!
Agreed the production on Everybody's on the Run could be better. The same can be said about the Stop The Clocks. I agree with Noel's assessment. There is a classic in there that he was never able to get throughly right in terms of arrangement and production. Unfortunately also with this album version

I really like Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks, not really one that works well live, but a good album track that I've come to appreciate more in the last few years. And yeah, I remember he was saying it came about from listening to The Kinks' Village Green.
Prefer to think that about Chasing Yesterday. We didn't really see Riverman, The Right Stuff, and While The Song Remains The Same coming, while everything except maybe WAL (maybe not because of Falling Down?) was kind of a given.

I love Alone On The Rope it's a great song and it's a shame that it was only released as a b.side. However I 'm glad that it wasn't on Noel's first album really.

I love it but to me his best album is WBTM, followed by Chasing Yesterday, then NGHFB and after that the EPs. I think NGHFB is his most formulaic album. He started exploring with Chasing Yesterday (Ballad and Right Stuff are still some of my favourite songs ever) and WBTM was the pinnacle of that exploration.

Chasing yesterday ,why me why not for the singles . Chasing yesterday Noel at his best . His first album is great but the production was poor and the master levels are shocking but song wise itโs a good starter . Who built the moon a strange album
