Or is he having his knee surgery and is taking time off to recover?

Like he's just not gonna go to his studio to record or finances are catching up and he's closing up shop completely? I typed out what he says word for word from the clip I was sent. “I haven’t actually written anything for quite a fucking while now, I’ve gotten away from it. I’ve shut my studio down until next year. I got to the point where I was thinking right, what am I doing, I’m living to work here, I’ve got this the wrong way round. I used to work to live, you know, and now I’m - I was in the studio every day and I’m not putting a record out next year and probably not one the year after that and I’ve still got a few gigs to wrap up. And I was thinking what am I fucking doing, being at the studio every day from midday for 6 hours and I’ve no fucking reason to be here. You know, I’m not doing anything…there’s no…so…I’ve kind of paid everybody off for six months and just said you know what, let’s rendezvous back here in January and actually I’ve been having a great time ever since." And later on he says this about Council Skies: “After living with that album now for a year I think it’s as close to perfect as I could ever get a record…I fucking love that album and actually it was one of the reasons why I thought why am I trying to follow this up now. There isn’t a fucking note out of place and I’ve got nothing left to say. I’ve said all I’ve got to say for now in that record and it’s my favourite album I’ve ever done." And then in the same podcast he says he's gonna let the songs come to him. So yeah, not sure what to make of it, but not filled with confidence. What does everyone else think? While the wait is annoying for us, I think this is the right approach to art, especially if you're lucky enough to not have to worry about paying the bills if you don't put anything out He's 57 and he's written 11 albums + b-sides, he's gone through a lot in his private life recently as well, if he wants to wait until he's in a better head space and he's got something new/worthwhile to say then be it

I read about that the other day but forgot to mention it. Let's hope that it all goes well like Liam's hip operation did. Hip and knee replacements - who’d have thought swaggering was so bad for you! 🚶

I get what he's saying about struggling to follow up something that he feels is his best work. Even if he does have a lot of good songs ready to go if they don't live up to the quality he perceives Council Skies to be that must be frustrating because in this stage of his career he doesn't feel like he needs to phone it in or put something out for the sake of it. But while Council Skies was generally well received you'd struggle to find fans who genuinely believe that it's his best work even as a solo artist. So you'll have a lot of fans hearing that and not understanding why he feels the way he does right now and could conceivably see themselves enjoying whatever he was going to put out next more than they did Council Skies. For example I've never got the sense from Noel that he ever felt that passionately about Chasing yesterday but fans generally loved it and from that perspective as a fan you'd be thinking you'd just want him to carry on releasing music even if he doesn't feel it lives up to his previous work because we might enjoy it more than he does. But I do get what he's saying from his point of view. No I can't see how its his best either. I think it's an extremely safe collection of fairly forgettable songs. But he may see it as his favourite because its something personal, familiar and comforting for him in a time of stress. Any ambition or sense of adventure might have taken a hit during the making of this, maybe curiosity takes a massive hit with these things and what we got is a songwriters version of comfort food. Given his recent ramblings about voting, it's hard not to hear a bitter old man. I hope he cheers up a bit and finds a new lease of life again which freshens things up creatively for him.

I actually think Council Skies has a shot at being his best solo album. There are a few songs that are among his best (obviously I mean as a solo artist) and it's by far the album that flows better from start to finish (imho). And casual fans love it

You can see why he’s sitting on the AA album. Casual fans are not going to give two shits about it. 💩 💩

And casual fans love it I think it’s his most consistent album. Other albums have better songs but they also have worse. Council skies flows from beginning to end quite nicely. There are different sounds but they all sound like they belong together. It’s a great listening experience.

Baffles me, even "Married with children" has more streams than "Cigs & alc" 🤨

Half the World Away is very popular with casuals.
Noel has played it a lot since going solo too. So that hasn’t hurt.

It made the UK singles chart in Nov 2015 as a result, the only Oasis non-single to chart (56): www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-chart/20151113/7501/It’s on loads of John Lewis Christmas playlists, so will have been getting an annual bump from extremely casual fans as a result. We’re talking one night stand casual here. That annual festive pension top up may have inspired Noel to write Wandering Star 😛 🧑🎄 🎄 💰

I never would've expected that.

I really like their album producer, Toddla T, but yeah, I must be getting old because the band name and balaclava image are quite off putting. That and they remind me of The Goldie Lookin’ Chain 😅 They’re absolutely playing up to sectarian bullshit which is starting to rear its ugly head again in Ireland. Young lads who didn’t live through the troubles who think shouting “Up the Ra!” is cool. Every bit as bad as the idiots that build giant bonfires and set them on fire in the middle of a housing estate. Apparently they met at Glasto www.nme.com/news/music/kneecap-talk-becoming-best-mates-with-noel-gallagher-and-irish-music-rising-above-this-u2-kind-of-shit-3778897
