I see that in India cases are going up and there's a new variant there and yet Boris Johnson is still going to visit there later this month. Idiot.

So a near normal gig trial is to take place in Liverpool with a crowd of 5,000 without having to social distance or wear a face covering. But they will only get into the 2nd May event by having a negative Covid test. Meanwhile the FA cup semi final between Leicester and Southampton at Wembley stadium will host a crowd of 4,000 later as part of goverment trail events. This doesn't sit comfortably with me and I think that it's far too soon to be thinking about things like this.

So Boris Johnson has seen sense and has cancelled his trip to India as Covid cases are going up every day. And, from Friday the country will be put on the red list. Why not start that straight away instead of waiting a few more days it seems a bit daft to me.

Had my vaccine this morning (Pfizer), hopefully I feel OK after it as 2 of my mates have been wiped out after theirs, but they had the Oxford one.

So from the 21st of April the curfew will be lifted, stores and terraces from restaurants will be open again. Okay I was off by a week, it has just been confirmed that this will happen next week. We also can have 2 people over. Seems a little weird since the numbers are going up again, but okay.

Well according to what I read on the BBC news pages earlier it said that it could be too late to stop the variant in the UK now but we'll just have to wait and see. That's the problem with Covid they keep finding these new variants.

I read on the BBC news pages earlier that the UK could be in for a summer surge in cases. I certainly hope not but this is what Prof Adam Finn of the joint Committee on vaccination and immunisation says.

I certainly hope not but this is what Prof Adam Finn of the joint Committee on vaccination and immunisation says. There will no doubt be a surge in cases once people start mixing again. I suppose the thing we want to find out is - do the number of cases going up result in the number of people getting seriously ill and ending up in hospital just as it has in the previous two waves? We are obviously hoping that the vaccinations will prevent that from happening again. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I remember that last year cases did go down in the summer months but things could be very different this year. This is why I think that it's a bit too early for the government to start doing these experiments with putting people together at these big events and now they're on about doing it for the Brit awards.

I read on the BBC world news pages that India has recorded the highest tally of new Covid cases anywhere in the world and the country's highest deaths over 24 hours. So it sounds like they could have even more cases than what Brazil has right now.

In India they've sent out an SOS message because they're really struggling to cope with all the Covid cases, it seems to be getting worse by the minute there. I hope that they'll get some help soon.

It's so tragic. Also just read that using current statistics some scientists estimate there will be a a million deaths in India by August. Just staggering. I hope that they can get the situation more quickly under control, but once infections are that high it is a long road. Anyone who is interested and able to send donations can do so at Karuna.org or Hemkuntfoundation.com

I haven't read anymore in the news today about it but something needs to be done and fast. Like you say though once the virus takes hold it's a long road. I really hope that they don't have a million deaths by August but sadly scientists could be right.

India is the world's largest vaccine producing country, yet the majority of the nation are not be able to get one. US, UK and Europe should help them. People should be helped yes, but if they are the biggest producer in the world of the vaccine why don't they help themselves? It baffles me India has made a whole bunch of serious mistakes -- including Modi doing what some other politicians also did, prioritizing electioneering over people's health. But it's still a country of an incredible 1.4 billion people and it was always going to be an absolutely massive challenge to vaccinate that many, even under the best of political circumstances. Even though India is a major vaccine producer, due to various issues, they currently are only able to produce about 70 million doses of the Covid vaccine per month. Most of that was supposed to go to other countries (which are also desperate for the vaccine), but India is now stopping exports. Even so, there's no way to vaccinate people quickly enough at that rate to stop the tsunami of infections. That's part of why they need help. But they also have a fragile health system that was in no way prepared for this in terms of supplies or capacity They presumed Covid was essentially over because it was estimated in some areas that at least 50% of the population already had it. Only it turns out that with the newer strains that is not nearly enough protection. The main things are that: 1) whatever the mistakes of politicians, the ordinary people don't deserve this terrible suffering and 2) even beyond the suffering, letting infections run rampant is super bad for the whole world because it increases the chances of a new strain popping up that won't respond well at all to current vaccines. That would set everybody way back. So no matter what, the world should help them because we're ultimately all in this mess together.

After 3 months curfew is eased today and terraces are allowed to limited open 12:00-18:00.
All those idiots gathering in Amsterdam and other cities yesterday regarding the King's Day can f**k off.
