I am getting more curiousor and curiousor by day about what the new version will sound like. I'm hoping it wouldn't sound too different, but I'd kind of like to see if Noel really made any improvements on it.
Q for everyone about to follow this thread:
Would you want it to be different, or would you want there to be some changes?
I think we all know what change needs to be done to a certain lyrics... If you know what I'm saying.

I think the version we already have is pretty damn near perfect. Honestly not sure how it could be improved, but if Noel decides to mess with the arrangement a little, he should make it spacier and more apocalyptic. His EP tracks have been generally really well produced considering that this is the same man who produced Heathen Chemistry, but I hope he doesn't defang this track like he did with Freaky Teeth, A Simple Game of Genius, etc.

It's apparently very similar and not much change at all (from Simmo from the Stage Left Podcast).
Which is fine by me. It's probably just a cleaner version.

I don't know why but I thought he would replace the choir for the girls maybe. Maybe a few new lyrics as well.

I've never understood this either. One of my favourite B sides. The remixes of ot kick ass too

I’m expecting something along the lines of the difference between the Revolution Song demo and the one that ended up as a Chasing Yesterday b-side. EDIT: have just listened to the version we already have for the first time in forever. It really does sound like a song from another age. I like it just fine but it's Force of Nature with the NGHFB album sound. Also, apparently Wandering Star changed quite a bit after Simmo heard it, so it's possible he's done more to this one, too. I hope it doesn't sound exactly like the demo. Either way, it should be a good fit for the live set.

Highly unrelated, but what’s exactly the problem with the album version of A Simple Game of Genius? Well the opening few lines are cringeworthy but the song itself is OK as a whole. Oh Cecilia Close your eyes and I will be with ya I'm in the song that's rising over ya

Problem with A Simple Game of Genius is that it’s the standard fare mid tempo plodder of Noel post-90s. It’s really beige and bland and nowhere near as spectacular as it wants to be. It’s where the dreaded term ‘dadrock’ is most applicable. Beady Eye were very similar too, whereas Liam’s solo efforts, while using traditional influences, are not nearly as tired or plodding.
If there’s one thing that David Holmes did, it was to get Noel out of that rut, forcing him to vary the rhythms a bit more. Even for his more traditional songs since 2017, he’s been able to mix things up with far more interesting results since.
This is the biggest failure of Wandering Star - it reverts to type for Noel circa 2000-2017 and is just really bland.

I think Simple Game Of Genius is great, one of the last examples of Noel being able to write an intro, verse, bridge, chorus, glorious guitar solo, chorus like in the old days. Such a waste to be thrown away. This and Come On Outside could have been Oasis number 1s if things had worked out differently.

The soundcheck version sounded like Down by the River fed through D'You Know What I Mean. The album version sounds flat, forced, and lifeless in comparison. Not too different from the album versions of Record Machine and Stop the Clocks. A mere shadow of what should've been.

I've never understood this either. One of my favourite B sides. The remixes of ot kick ass too I'm always surprised when people don't like that tune as well. Great song. To me it was a disappointment. We knew the soundcheck version for 2 years prior. It was this hugely sounding guitar hero epic. Sounded like Neil Young and Crazy Horse doing Champagne Supernova style solos. It was super long too in their jamming. 18 min. Sadly all of that promise was stripped away. It was never gonna be 18 min, prob 7 but it lost all its punch.

The only remixes from the first album are UNKLE reworks of Let The Lord Shine Shine A Light On Me and AKA What a Life and an Amorphous Androgynous of What a Life too.

The 'live' 2009 version of Simple Game Of Genius was so spectacular in that soundcheck. So huge, so loud. The record version does just feel like a watered-down attempt at Champagne Supernova – though I still like to listen to it every now and again and it's great to play acoustically.

Never heard that version but guaranteed it never would sound like that in the studio anyway. Hearing a live version of a song before a recorded version will almost always set you up for disappointment. We superfans gets what we deserve from time to time.

23 days until the 11 and a half year wait is over, and we finally get a finished version of Come On Outside! Truly mind blowing. I can’t believe that much time has passed! I remember not long after DOYS dropped that we were all considering songs for LP #8. - Come On, It’s Alright - Record Machine - Stop The Clocks - Freaky Teeth - A Simple Game of Genius - If I Had A Gun

I wish i was excited. I hope it'll be alright and not just remix of the demo. It was kinda lazy. Need better vocals too. But Noel has vastly evolved since that 08 or 10 demo.
