Hi,
Haven't seen anyone posting specifically about Noel's set supporting U2 in Sydney a few weeks ago so thought I'd share some thoughts.
It was pissing down with rain the first night (the Friday) so the conditions weren't great to start with and I suspect it may have delayed Noel's start time which was meant to be 7.30pm. He didn't come on until closer to 8pm and I think the setlist was shortened a little to reflect this.
I've seen Oasis every time they've come to Australia and each time Liam and Noel have come down separately and I have to say that there was something off about Noel that night. Not trying to criticise because I love both of their musical careers equally and hate it when they attack each other.
Noel did one of his usual things of making fun of Australians in some stage banter and the other times I've seen him do it there was always a playfulness about it. But that night he just seemed genuinely pissed off to the point where he even walked off the stage for a few minutes. I'm not saying he threw a hissy fit but it did make me think that he didn't want to be there.
The setlist was front ended with the new stuff and ended with the Oasis stuff. I loved 'Wandering Star' but it wasn't until 'Little By Little' that I felt like the energy lifted a little.
I think the odds worked against him a little as well in terms of the audience because they were clearly there to see U2 and I'm not sure that were was much of an overlap with proper Oasis fans. I was in the moshpit towards the front and only when 'Wonderwall' and 'Don't Look Back in Anger' came on did he get what I would think was an appropriate response from the audience.
Either way I still enjoyed it but I do think it would've been better if Noel did some sideshows at the Enmore instead to attract the proper fans who would have definitely come out and given him a proper reception!
