My wife loves them. The music is OK but I find the lead singer has absolutely no character in his voice - and he seems to sing every song the same way.

Its quite interesting that joe strummer and Liam gallagher possibly sparked off toms direction with angles and airwaves.
tom's present voice is something that people either like or dislike it seems, he clearly isnt the same vocalist as he was 20 years go.
AVA is basically grouped into two eras "we dont need to whisper" though to "love part 2" is basically quite spacious and makes use of longer guitar sections whilst "the dream walker" (I personally really like this album) and their new song takes their music in a more compact direction.
Id say this is my favourite tune, you should really try toms other project "boxcar racer" as well.

Tom HAS aged 20 years since Blink so obviously doesn't sound the same. And his live voice is absolutely shit beyond belief. But the albums are immense
This is one of my favourites, the guitar outro is fucking superb

And his live voice is absolutely shit beyond belief. But the albums are immense the drum off performance from 2008 though has some incredible vocals imo. I think tom just needs a vocal coach, hes got a habit of not really bothering to pronounce his words so just slurs through them, his actual voice is probably still half decent. His performances with blink between 2011 and 2013 were actually pretty good. overall though, Im pretty excited for this new album and tour in the fall, its been too long since they did a proper album cycle. |

I used to hate them. Sounded so self-important, bloated, self-righteous.
They've a handful of amazing tracks, and more a few absolutely horrendous ones, mostly on the first album.
But having seen what's become of blink182 recently I'm digging AVA more and more. Tom Delonge's an artist, can't sing or play that well but he'll go down as one of the greatest songwriters of all time whether people like him or not.

Kind of had my hype for the new album dented when it turned out that tom is treating this like a two year project apparently with the album being released alongside a movie which hasnt even started being filmed yet.
will be cool to get a new song, I enjoyed rebel girl but hopefully this one will have some more depth to it.
no idea when its coming out though, knowing tom it could be next week or next year.

I never really got into them.
I used to be a huge Blink182 fan and I remember the hype after the 2004 breakup when Tom announced AVA and started releasing snippets from the project. The day he unveled the AVA logo I even went to a shop and printed it into a t-shirt (yeah, without having really listened to a single song, I was a teenage fanboy back then).
I kind of liked the first single 'The Adventure' but I secretly hoped it wasn't the best song on the album, and it turned out it was.
I was so disappointed and even though I tried to enjoy the album I think it wasn't for me.
Now, talking about Blink side projects, both +44 and Boxcar Racer had some amazing songs.
