I think you people must have a different scale than me. To say it's average or pretty good and then give it a 8.5/10?!? I will say that if this was any other artist other than Noel, I would've turned it off after like 1 minute. Can you imagine 1996 Noel listening to this? Not that people shouldn't try new things, but man, he's getting rid of the aspects that made him good and replacing them with crap

Not sure if that's a good or bad thing but: Black Star Dancing >>> last album(-TMWBTM, Fort Knox) Definitely catchy and I kinda enjoyed this

A solid, catchy tune! A more intriguing version of She Taught Me How To Fly, and better than quite a few tracks on WBTM.
+ Good intro, nice synths The guitar at 1:22(and 2:33) is too dawn sweet. The female vocals! Well, it just grooves
- An underwhelming guitar solo. Felt a bit forced, like there just HAD to be a solo after the second chorus. But it was short and the end blended nicely into the female vocal part.
The chorus is fine, but a tiny bit predictable, would have preferred more of a surprise tbh.
I was going to say 7.5, but thinking of it now, this is an 8!

going through the motions of what he thinks other people will find cool or whatever, when it's not. I'm pretty certain that most, if not all, Noel Gallagher fans fully accept that digging Noel (or Oasis for that matter), either the old or the new stuff, is definitely never going to be considered "cool". You don't like or listen to High Flying Birds to be considered "cool", not at all. And I'm almost certain that Noel, a 51 year old, fully accepts that notion too. He is just making the sort of music that he wants to make and if you're on board, great, enjoy, but don't be calling it dogshit just because you're not into it. There are plenty of bands and artists where I listen to them and go, fuck me that is bloody awful, but I fully accept that plenty of people's ears like it. I'm almost 40 and haven't really liked any Oasis album post SOTSOG so I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon because I'm still chasing the Oasis line. It is just mellow and different and I'm really enjoying the new direction. Each to their own man.

Just a good thing he finally makes a riff.

It'd be funny if he wrote it at home because it would pretty much blow up the argument that the reason the songs of WBTM "aren't" good was because Noel had been writing in the studio instead of at home (which has always sounded like an overly simplistic case of causality or finger pointing to me toward something that anyone with any ounce of musical training would find pretty laughable). You're twisting what has been said. Again, I don't think anyone has a problem with Noel writing in the studio, Bag It Up and The Turning got written in the studio I believe for Dig Out Your Soul? Brilliant songs. The problem lies with ONLY being allowed to write in the studio, it's restricting what songs he can use therefore the overall quality of the album could suffer. I don't care if it's written in the studio or at home, as long as it's good. Does my post actually twist what everyone has said? I don't think so. I've not seen many people over the last few years approach the studio writing question which much nuance. That's just been my impression. And I don't think it's stupid to "solely' write in the studio (as if that's a thing). Once again, not as restricting as a lot people make it out to be.

This is not a new thing.

After 25 years he's entitled to make the music he wants to make, but I think this is where me and Noel Gallagher part ways. There's just nothing in there that reflects what I've always loved about his music.

This could have been the High Horse Lady of WBTM. Thank God he left it off.
I see a lot of 8's and 9's being thrown around, probably because it's Noel, and probably because he decided to do "something different". I agree with the pissing in a toilet analogy that someone else came up with. I predict in a few weeks some of these 8's and 9's will begin to drop.

Considering how terrible Noel is at picking singles, what are the chances the other songs are brilliant?

I say that every time an Oasis related project drops. The scores are so inflated and the terms being thrown around are outrageous. I wish I could find the thread that contained all the DGSS forum reviews. It’s a hell of a read. It’ll make you laugh so hard. Phrases like “classic” and “masterpiece” were liberally tossed around. I’ve tried to find it again but it’s under a thread title that isn’t album review or ratings.

Flick of the Finger is a weak 7, and everything else is worse -- most of it much more so.

I really don't know what to make of this song. It starts off like a typical four-to-the-floor house tune in the vein of Mylo or some other producer that was massive in the mid 2000s. Then the chorus kicks in and it suddenly veers into INXS territory. And then you have the guitar solo. I mean, what is going on here?
That's a 6/10 from me.

It’s more about taking time and letting music settle before declaring something a “masterpiece”.

The same people saying Beady Eye songs were classic are probably the same one's criticising Noel's latest tune.

It’s got a great beat, can’t deny that. Although the similarity to West end girls almost makes me burst out laughing, not in a bad way. Love the guitar, the more guitar focus in a Noel song the better for me. The only thing I don’t like is that “makes me sweat” line 🤢😂

I really like it. Better than Holy Mountain for me. Blatant Inxs rip off at points but some guitar at last! 8/10

I see it the other way actually... with Holy Mountain, time has made me like the song even more, not at all less. This feels the same. I like this well enough, but with more time I imagine I'll still like it. I'd never call it a highlight from a Noel, but it's fine. The back-half of it I find particularly tasty.
