There aren't enough B-sides for this. WBTM contains only 9 proper tracks plus 2 instrumental tracks ("interludes") and 1 CD-only bonus track. The B-sides are just instrumentals, the CD bonus track, a demo, remixes and an old bonus track from 2011. Yet he managed to spread this moderate output over 1 album plus 6 12". Can't get any lazier. Do you reckon it goes back to getting burned by releasing so many great songs as b-sides back in the 90s? Or maybe he just doesnt write as much nowadays.

With single track downloads and now streaming, b-sides are dying out for all artists. He doesn’t want to waste songs which are going on vinyl to sell a few hundred copies. Would rather save them back for albums instead or put them out as album bonus tracks to encourage album sales. X

Do you reckon it goes back to getting burned by releasing so many great songs as b-sides back in the 90s? The first NGHFB album still had 10 proper tracks plus 5 proper b-sides/bonus tracks and 2 remixes. Or maybe he just doesnt write as much nowadays. This. I think it is a sign of the times. With single track downloads and now streaming, b-sides are dying out for all artists. In the age of streaming, the more tracks (no matter whether edits, remixes, demos, bonus tracks) you release the more money you make. Plus Noel made a lot of additional money with fans buying all these coloured vinyl/picture disc releases of the same few songs. There's a reason some of them were D2C exclusives

I don't have any real expectations for this. I imagine it'll be 'Where The City Meets The Sky 2'. Some remixes or alternative versions with Jessica/YSEE/Charlotte on vocals are just a neat bonus until a real album arrives as far as I'm concerned. Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve remix of 'Riverman' is superb (better than the original) so hopefully there will be something as good as that. Yeah, Where The City Meets The Sky is great. Adds much needed colour and vibrancy to some pretty dour recordings from Chasing Yesterday. The proper treatment in my opinion. There’s some great beats going on in Who Built The Moon, so many of those tracks would be ripe for a remix. I wouldn’t be too displeased at all to hear that. One thing I will say is that we’ll be fucked if Noel decides to go down the meat and potatoes route again if I’m being brutally honest.

There's a reason some of them were D2C exclusives I agree, but most artists pad out their albums with bonus tracks because Spotify and other streaming services don’t surface singles very well. It’s why Nine Inch Nails classed their last EP as an album rather than a single, because their previous EPs were classed as singles and got fewer plays as a result. It’s also why so many hip hop artists exercise no quality control and pad out their albums with crap to make them 2 or 3 discs long. I’m looking at you Migos. The fans snapped up all of Noel’s vinyl singles without a single new song being provided as b-side on them, so why would he waste good songs on them... X

I agree, but most artists pad out their albums with bonus tracks because Spotify and other streaming services don’t surface singles very well. Much better than albums. The classic album format becomes less and less important It’s also why so many hip hop artists exercise no quality control and pad out their albums with crap to make them 2 or 3 discs long. I’m looking at you Migos. That's because the more tracks your album has, the more money you make when users listen to it. 10 tracks means less money than 20 or even 50, even if the content has the same overall length. The fans snapped up all of Noel’s vinyl singles without a single new song being provided as b-side on them, so why would he waste good songs on them... He simply didn't have any good songs to waste

Yes, that’s my point. Artists pad out albums now, not singles. All in all, single track releases, remixes, mixtapes and EPs are state of the art, much more important than (even padded out) albums. Yes. Based on the stuff he released during the WBTM cycle.

Based on the stuff he released during the WBTM cycle. - Still an assumption by you. Noel’s explicitly said he’s got many more songs written and partially recorded. You can think he’s lying if you want - but I think it’s more likely he’s holding tracks back for his next album(s) rather than doing many b-sides. He’s not the only artist I’ve witnessed recently stop doing b-sides. Seems to be a trend to me - single sales are so low now artists don’t waste many tracks on them. X

"Wait" for the new album and "Return" to WBTM ? The title is probably hinting that, here's hoping for leftover tracks from those sessions although for a RSD release it will probably be shitty remixes.

Haha, I scratched them out in the post above. I already had Where The City Meets the Sky but I’ve added The Mexican, Beautiful World and She Taught Me How To Fly to that. Will get the UNKLE remixes at some point too. X

The Reflex mix of Paul Weller’s Mayfly was a cracker. Hopefully these reworks are of that standard.
