Thought about Creedence Clearwater Revival and what an amazing name that is for a band, and how this topic could be deserving its own thread. You don't even have to like the band, the name is all that is important here.
Bring it!

I've always loved the sound of the name Kyuss. It's hard not to name Queens of the Stone Age as well, and I would probably say that even if I hadn't been a massive fan of theirs.

Great topic!
Don't judge a band by its name. This is a GREAT song.
Anyway, they're like Pavement (which is a brillant name in its own right) but even more slackier. There must have been a myriad of DIY underage garage bands in the past 50-60 years since the first Nuggets compilation came out that definitely, at least drunkenly on a Friday night, considered to name their band exactly like this. I wonder if these guys ever copyrighted it.

Rage Against the Machine Joy Division Dead Kennedys Black Sabbath Sonic Youth
Edit: I think there are a few categories of great band names, by looking at some of those I just mentioned I can think of four. 1: Makes no sense, just sounds cool - Sonic Youth. 2: Clever - Black Sabbath, mocking religion in a for them very fitting way. 3: A name that simply says everything about what the band is about - Rage Against the Machine. And 4: Irony/saecasm - Joy Division.
Edit 2: Obviously category 4 should be part of category 2.

I love the name King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. It's fun, catchy, and instantly recognizable.
Red Hot Chili Peppers. The name fits the band's energy level well.
AC/DC is another band that has a name that also fits its style well.
Happy Mondays is kind of an ironic name that has a nice ring to it.

Separating this from the quality of music, I actually think Take That is a good name. It's been ruined by association with Take That, of course, but it could have been good.

Tears For Fears Talking Heads Frightened Rabbit Electronic Pet Shop Boys The Stone Roses Oasis I think pretty much all bandnames that have the word "boys" (or girls for that matter) in it are aweful. I mean, The Beach Boys. Ugh.
