AYW isn't really that big of a departure from DGSS.
Different Gear Still Speeding was well received upon release but it has aged terribly. I don't remember the last time I listened to that album - it's been many years.
As You Were is more focused, and a fair bit tighter. But as far as overall sound goes, the two albums are practically the same.
I still feel Beady Eye would have traveled down the same road if AYW was their first album. Which makes Liam's second album crucial that it doesn't make the same mistakes as BE did.

Beady Eye's biggest flaw was simply that no one other than Liam had any personality that anyone cared about.
Liam's solo efforts will always be more interesting by comparison because he isn't dragging around three other stiffs that no one cares about.

It couldn't. Mostly of the AYW material is signed by Liam, yes, but along other people that isn't involved with the artist himself (besides production). Unlike Beady Eye where the lyrics are written by people involved with the band. Can't compare

How the hell would an album of As You Were’s quality be even remotely possible in Beady Eye?
Liam’s biggest mistake was to hang on to Gem and Andy and their pathetic songs. Should have ditched them from the start as As You Were proved.

Oasis is a brand; Líam Gallagher is a brand; Noël Gallagher is a brand; Beady Eye is a terrible band name.
God bless.

Liam Gallagher - Son of the Stage
1. Sons of the Stage 2. Soul Love 3. Don't Brother Me 4. Beatles and Stones 5. Man of Misery 6. Bring the Light 7. Shine a Light 8. The World's Not Set in Stone 9. Wigwam 10. Start Anew 11. The Morning Son 12. Across the Universe
LAG wasn't that terrible as people make it out to be. They gave us some nice songs: Four Letter Word Millionaire The Roller The Morning Son World Outside My Room In the Bubble with a Bullet Flick of the Finger Soul Love Shine a Light Start Anew Back After the Break Off at the Next Exit Girls in Uniform Evil Eye
I'm not saying that these are Oasis golden years material, but it is not like that Noel was releasing his best work at the same moment. I would love know what DGSS would sound like if Noel was on board and how NGHFB would have sounded with Oasis.

Oasis is a brand; Líam Gallagher is a brand; Noël Gallagher is a brand; Beady Eye is a terrible band name. God bless. This is right. The general public buy into the brand. Although everyone knew Beady Eye was Oasis minus Noel, i think that it didn't have much appeal to the general public because the brand wasn't there and it just looked like Noel left, and the band carried on under a new name and it all seemed a bit underwhelming to anyone but hardcore fans. Noel was see at the "talented one" in Oasis among the public, so carrying on without him and having your first album sounding a bit like a watered down version was always going to make it a struggle. what he did after Beady Eye is what he should've done after Oasis. Disappear for a while and come back with some decent instant enough polished tunes under his own name and a really great PR campaign that made him flavour of the month in the general public. i think they played a blinder on his comeback. There's nothing remarkable about the music, but the album and promo around it was polished and contemporary enough to give him a bit of identity to stand on his own. Beady Eye were dated before they barely got going in terms of the music, image, carrying the weight of the previous band etc.. They tried to change it for the second album but it was all a bit too late.

I also think there was 2 other small parts of promo that was even before this...the Supersonic film and even the Comic Relief bit that brought Liam back to people a consciousness
