I know this is a weird comparison - because it is. But I know there are a few on here who can't stand DOYS ( mimmihopps), and I also know As You Were was well received on here so I'm quite interested to see how this vote plays out. And in truth, it's a difficult one. The highs are (much) higher on DOYS, but the lows are lower. Regardless, I'm personally going with DOYS. Can't beat Noel's songwriting.

I never said that I can't stand DOYS, but to me it's the worst album Oasis ever made and it's a shame that it was their last album. This album was my biggest Oasis disappointment. As for the topic, Dig Out Your Soul and As You Were are completely different albums, in different time. At the time when Oasis released DOYS, their passion as a band faded away. Also tour was a way too long. Noel was attacked on V Festival just after the tour was started in 2008 and relationship between two brothers went downhill. All these things reflected the album. No passion and no love to each other. As You Were was fresh, a long waited solo album by Liam and it gave me completely different feel.

i quite like the vibe and production on parts of DOYS, it has it's moments, but it's just lacking in really good songs. Also "To Be Where There's Life" and "The Nature of Reality" are two of the worst tunes that the band ever did, and songs like "Get Off Your High Horse Lady" and "Ain't Got Nothin" aren't much better.
The way i see it is that if you're in the mood for some rather generic but solid enough Liam sung songs that isn't Oasis, then As You Were does a very good job of being that.
if you're in the mood for something more like Dig Out Your Soul, you can probably find far better stuff to listen to.

apart from TSOTL IOT FD The Turning doys is my least favourite oasis album, the qaulity of songs on AYW are way better than doys as a whole

The first 7 songs up to Falling Down (excluding High Horse, although I don't hate it as much as others do) are excellent imo. As a collective they're as good as anything since Morning Glory.
Unfortunately the three that follow are unlistenable. I like Soldier On, but the three in-between ruin what could have been a very good album.
As You Were has a couple of ropey songs as well in When I'm In Need, I Get By and Chinatown, but overall I think its more consistent. However, the overall quality isn't as high.
Its a difficult one, can't really make my mind up

so you think Dig Out Your Soul is the ultimate album of it's kind and you couldn't find an album that fits the bill better than that, if you were in the mood for some rock n roll music with an attempt at some psychedelic touches to it? Just my 0.02, often I'll want to listen to an album for that album's particular feel/moods, etc.. Not just the 'best' of some given generic genre*. Like sometimes Heathen Chemistry is *the* album I'll want to listen to. Objectively, it's not the 'ultimate' soft/alt rock (if I had to pick a genre) album, far from it, but at some particular points when I'm in a particular mood, I'll want to listen to that above any other album. Similar with DOYS, SOTSOG, any Oasis album... any album I've got.... *many albums have unique enough genre combinations that I don't find it worth thinking what genre I want to listen to, I want song x or album y right now, end of

What the hell is people’s problem with To Be Where There’s Life?? Absolute tune is you ask me and a beast live I agree. The Richard Fearless version of it captures that quality well in studio form and gets the guitars into the equation. Nevertheless, it's an interesting song on the album with how there are no electric guitars in it and it's just the bassline, drums, toy sitar, and keyboards.

DOYS had so much potential. Noel’s quotes were fantastic during the run up to recording and release. Sadly they didn’t walk the walk.

As You Were for me.
DOYS could have been so much better:
1. Bag It Up 2. The Turning 3. Waiting for the Rapture 4. Shock of the Lightning 5. The Boy With the Blues 6. I'm Outta Time 7. Lord Don't Slow Me Down 8. Falling Down 9. To Be Where There's Life (A Richard Fearless Production) 10. I Believe in All
Add in Come On Outside, Stop the Clocks, Record Machine which were all available and DOYS never reached the potential it had for me. We don't know much about songs omitted from As You Were so I have to go with that album.

As You Were for me. Dig Out Your Soul, say It's a missed opportunity if you want but I've always thought the album sounded like a half arsed album where the split is already obvious. There is 2 maybe 3 tracks on there that I think are very good, the rest differ from unlistenable to meh. It is very much a missed opportunity as the tracks that wasn't put on there is so high...Not just Boy With The Blues or I Believe in All but even the likes of Four Letter Word and Record Machine and Everybody's On The Run.
As You Were on the other hand, is still an album I can listen to from start to finish and get the same buzz from. Liam sounds better and the production is better.
