People have to separate what they actually like about this, liking that he's doing it and liking the performance itself.
I like that he's doing it. It's an effort in the right way.
But I don't like the performance. I like the original version's electric guitars and Liam's aggressive take on vocals that Noel cannot emulate, not that he's trying to anyway.

I love that he's doing it and really enjoy the performance. Each to their own

So after seeing it live I can say it's meh. The fact that he's doing it is cool and all but Liam's vocals on the record cannot be topped (on record because after the Jools Holland performance he butchered it of course). There's a groove on the records that can't be recapture if the bass can't be heard louder than the guitars.
I love the the way Chris plays it though. He could have done it without the sample (which was evidently played faster which I hated). Even Alan could have done it without the playback.
Anyway, it's one of them Liam songs.

They’re nailing it the more they play it. Go Let it Out was definitely the highlight of the Akron show last night.

surely people are finding it a bit annoying with the acoustic? like yes it has an acoustic on the record but if liam came out and played greedy soul on an acoustic youd be a bit like wtf?

But if Noel did an electric version, it wouldn't work at all. His voice would be completely overpowered. Shifting it down to F# has given it a bit of a 'lighter' feel - a bit more country - and it works for Noel's voice. If he tried to do an electric version and mimic Liam's voice he'd (probably rightly) get slaughtered.

I don’t get it either...people who want to hear something that’s identical to the album version...why not just listen to the album? How they’re performing it now is excellent for Noel’s voice and a live environment. It’s a shot in the arm for the whole gig. I’d much rather listen to it than another ballad like Dying of the Light or something like that. It’s always a treat to me and many other fans when Noel dusts off a beloved song from the Oasis catalogue that hasn’t been performed live in decades. Plus I always used to listen to the demo version of GLIO all the time where the acoustic guitar was a lot more prominent, so this didn’t seem jarring to me at all.

There actually is an acoustic guitar on the album version, which is why I don't get it. Agree with everything. Really looking forward to hear it in April.

Please no more If I Had A Gun or Dying of The Light. Boring. Boring. Boring. Boring? Of course you can't get a crowd like that for every gig but I love If I Had A Gun, especially live-it was definitely the highlight for me in Vancouver 2012, I'm fine with it staying.

To me the song is generic and that songy type song many of us are tired of from Noel. If the fans are going wild for it fair enough. Doesn’t change vibe of the song for me. At radio city last week the crowd also got very animated for it. Maybe it’s a me issue.

Pretty sure Noel had Tim do a guitar solo for it in 2012, I think other times Mike did a keyboard solo for it as well maybe.

I find that part of the song lazy. Always figured it was just a placd holder in that 2009 soundcheck video. Nope.

I love If I Had A Gun...
And enjoy Dream On.
Both good songs. I'd be disappointed if IIHAG wasn't played live.

Please no more If I Had A Gun or Dying of The Light. Boring. Boring. Boring. i agree completely. So many better songs to replace If I Had A Gun. And this may be another unpopular opinion, but I am tired of hearing AKA What a Life! I still enjoy hearing Dream On live, and I'll take it over those two songs any day.

I still like What A Life! live. I'd like Noel to add back Standed On The Wrong Beach. Very good live. Sinister guitar sounds.

And this may be another unpopular opinion, but I am tired of hearing AKA What a Life! I still enjoy hearing Dream On live, and I'll take it over those two songs any day. I agree completely. Of those three songs, I’d also pick Dream On over If I Had a Gun and AKA What a Life, only because I like the way Dream On sounds live with the little flourishes, while the other two are played straightforward and more or less the same as the album. But in general for those first album songs...I enjoyed them when they came out at the time in 2011, but in the years since my patience for them has dwindled significantly. Partly because it’s Dave Sardy produced, that album is caught in the middle of still being formulaic Oasis, with subtle hints of trying to break off into a new sound he’d venture into in the later solo albums, while not being as good as either one. I think the songs from Chasing Yesterday and Who Built the Moon stand up better live especially...those songs are different enough that they add some variety to the set and break up the samey Noel sound we’ve been used to pre-2014.
