I'm enjoying it. Love their early stuff but glad they're branching out into new territory (for them). Very Bowie.

I haven't listened to it yet, but reading your comments I imagine it sounds similar to the Submarine Soundtrack EP?

Just had a listen. As many have commented, very Bowie like in a lot of spots. Seems to be missing the quirks and flourishes that make Bowie so interesting for me though. Alex really doesn't seem to make use of his other band members skills IMO. Someone above said this record could use a rocker. I'd say it needs a few.
BTW I liked TLSP 1 and Submarine. I need my AM to have a little more balls though.
Favorite tune: One Point Perspective. Got some nice bass and guitar playing.

Sorry offtopic but I'm just listening to their debut and I had forgotten how fucking good that actually is.
"Alex' evolved", etc. I don't fucking care as long as the music's good and this is still clearly their best sounding record. It's punky, it's got great guitar riffs, good production and nice lyrics.

I like WPSIATWIN but i still rate Favorite Worst Nightmare over it. But there´s something about these two albums (which Humbug still somewhat retains) that have the original AM magic. Turner has evolved musically since then, but i still think that´s his best style of music. But this new album is the first time that a AM album has stuck in my head after day 1 since Humbug. Well and Suck It and See somewhat as well.

Listening to it now - Four Out of Five is the best track on first listen for me, also really like Science Fiction and The World's First Ever Monster Truck Front Flip. This will take a few listens I think - everything is just a bit meh.
As somebody else said, this is cosmic pop!

I was gonna rush out and buy this on the way to work this morning, but having taken the time to listen to the whole thing on Spotify last night, I decided against it.
Seriously in no rush at all to buy this, couple of decent tracks aside, its a VERY poor effort IMO

It's very different and this is more 'cosmic pop' than Noel managed, certainly.
In all honesty, I was bored after the first four or five songs. They all sound the same and Turner's drawl was doing my head in.
But, Four Out Of Five (the only song that could be a single on the album imo) does kick it up a notch and I really enjoyed the rest of the album - Science Fiction and She Looks Like Fun being the highlights.
I'm glad he's done it to get it out of his system. You can feel the coke seeping through the record but ultimately I don't think it has the longevity or the songs to last.
Certainly only an album you can listen to as one solid piece of music as well.

I'm really unsure about this. It might be a grower but so far the only song that grabbed me was Ultracheese. Some of my favourite albums were growers, so fingers crossed.

Am loving Turner's vocals on this album cycle. He's come on leaps and bounds in that department.

Oh look, another mediocre Arctic Monkeys album. It's by far their worst album, I wish it was as "mediocre" as their other albums, if only.

Haven't you only listened it to once? How can you say so surely it's the worst album they've made when you've lived with their others for years and years? Answer: you can't.

Feels like 'Golden Trunks' could've been left out. It's the only one not clicking with me at the moment. Maybe it'll grow...

I'm not really in a rush to hear it again either, very disappointed with it. It's lacking in a lot of areas for me. Its lacks riffs, beats and decent lyrics. Can't believe they've been away so long and then come back with this, its like a piss take to be honest.

Honestly, I've read so many bad comments on Twitter I expected it to be absolutely shit, and it's not It sounds more like Submarine/TLSP than the other Arctic Monkeys records, but that doesn't make it bad It's a coherent and solid piece of music from start to finish, which is a quite anachronistic thing in these days and age Sure, it could've been better with a couple of uptempo tracks thrown in there to shake things up a little bit, but I like it more than their last two efforts Four Out Of Five and The Ultracheese are the two standouts imo

Are people really saying they prefer this over Suck it and See and AM?
Lyrically Suck it and See is way ahead and although I'm not a massive fan of AM myself, It wipes the floor with this in truth, not even close.

On my first listen, and I just listened to the title track which is the only that has stood out to me so far. I like how he uses a different voice on it. Hoping the rest of the album won't be all the same though, although some of the comments seem to suggest that us exactly the case.

The twitter backlash was expected. Most of it comes from fans who only discovered who they were when they released AM and were expecting more "R U Mine?" and "Do I Wanna Know?". This is a way more chill album, that does not have the mainstream appeal that AM had.
Most of the people i´ve discussed the album with, and who have been fans since the beginning, rate this at least as their favorite AM album since Humbug. Only bad point for me is the lack of a guitar but that is explained with it´s Glam Rock tendency. The high points are some of the best things they have done in years. It´s very coherent with it´s sound from start to finish and that makes it a album with a nice sense of flow. I totally understand who says it needs one track that lifts up the mood, but a album is not less good because of that.
But opinions are opinions. I for example rate this as i do, but for example i don´t really Arcade Fire´s album all that much, while a lot of my friends do. Each to their own at the end of the day.
