I was floating around YouTube earlier and came across a comment from someone who said that Liam's singing with more power now because he is singing from his gut instead of his throat as he used to.
I know nothing about singing technique so was wondering if there was any truth in this or is it just bollocks?

I actually noticed that too. It's really impressive that he's been able to unlearn bad habits he's had for so many years.

I know nothing about the technical side of singing. If it's the case then I assume singing from the gut doesn't put so much strain on the throat and would therefore explain why his voice has held up so much better during this tour than in previous years?

He´s sure changed something, sometimes when he sings i can see him do weird movements with his mouth to maintain the notes for some reason. I don´t exactly what it is, but there´s something different there.

Singing from your throat for years will eventually deteriorate your voice. It's also a big reason your voice will fade over a long tour. If you take someone who works in musicals and operas, they sing about 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day for years and years and never have many problems. It's because they have been trained to sing correctly to preserve their voice.

See Wonderwall at the Olympics v any version from this tour. You should be able to hear the difference. He only started singing through his nose midway through the DOYS tour up until Beady Eye finished, while you're at the gig you don't notice the difference, but listening back you can hear how much more thin and nasal he sounds when he's not singing properly.
It also leaves you with less room to reach the high notes and you lose depth and vibrato when singing lower. This affected Beady Eye songs imo, the choruses could never explode like they should have, they always sounded restrained or if he did try to go higher he just did a falsetto, which is fine, but not why we love Liam's voice. The notes he reaches in the WOG chorus for example couldn't be achieved if he was still singing as he did in Beady Eye.
His 'chest voice' was getting really ropey midway through the DOYS tour so I understand why he changed at the time, I thought that part of his voice was lost forever, I'm thrilled it's back!

Do you agree with him, that the ear piece affected his voice? I have no idea about this aspect of music... I've tried to understand the difference in the monitor and ear monitor but it's still confuses me. Very interesting topic..thanks to those that have given explanations!

I'm not too sure about this one. He used in-ear monitors at the Manchester Ritz earlier this year, but he fucked them off midway through the gig. He has been using IEMs on and off for years, surely it hasn't taken him until now to realise he doesn't like them. It's not that he requires a monitor in front of him to be able to sing properly - recording in a studio, or on Radio with a set of headphones isn't a problem for him. Personally, at the live gigs, I find he sings better without the IEMs. Glastonbury 2004 springs to mind as one of the first times I noticed the IEMs, and he didn't sound great that night.

In truth, It's just bollocks. Good to know. Cheers. Actually it is true. Trained singers are taught to use their diaphragm, and employ their stomach mulscles to push downwards to be able to sustain the notes. The ability to take good breadths out (before those in) is really important, and you can tell Liam is focusing more on this between his breadths as well. Singers say you shouldnt be able visibly see people gasping between phrases; it goes without saying Liam's technique from the early years breathing primarily from the chest wasn't sustainable. But hey, what would I know.

So is Liam now a pussy, or do they accept they were wrong?

Just check any of the countless threads on the forums out his voice.... But yes it's good he's done something, although I don't see the drastic change many see proclaiming. It's all very emperor's new clothes, typical 'liam at start of tour'. Still sounds pretty ropey in place.

Still sounds pretty ropey in place. Tbh I started this thread more due interest of whether Liam had actually changed his technique than to blow smoke up his ass for the improvement recently. I think he does deserve credit for doing something to deal with his problems but at the same time he shouldn't have let them get to the stage they did if they were this easily corrected. So many years wasted sounding like your drunk uncle at a karaoke bar. I saw oasis in DOYS tour and he sounded awful, it made me so sad to think this was the band I idolised back in the 90s. I was neither upset or surprised when they broke up. And yes I'm sure there are people talking shit on other threads, just as there are on both sides of every argument on here. It's the internet, letting people talk shit behind an anonymous user name is pretty much it's main function.
