The Stone Roses have bored me in recent years, they've been dangling this new album over our heads for far too long. Either put your balls on the line and put out a full album of new songs or stick to reunion gigs every 5 years or so.

It's also a bit unfair to judge The La's album anyway. The track listing and recordings are NOTHING like Mavers wanted. I was lucky enough to meet him for a bit and he said his album would have been about a 17 track album if it was done properly. I could write down a rough track listing of how he wanted it when i have time to remember, it would have been incredible.
I'd say The La's and Mavers in general is on another level to The Stone Roses, but the Roses got the album right and people can judge them how it was intended.
The La's album is pieced together from rough takes and nowhere near the album they intended in terms of songs and production. It really doesn't do them any justice at all and not a true reflection of the band.
The Stone Roses album is excellent in it's own right of course and they nailed it. John Leckie actually mentioned to me once that he would do a lot of things different in terms of production, he reckons he used far much too reverb on that album and would have everything much less wet sounding. I think it's spot on how it is though, it has an atmosphere.

Never been a massive fan of The La's. Timeless Melody, Way Out and There She Goes are all great songs but apart from that it's all a bit average. The Stone Roses on the other hand are one of my favourite bands of all time.
