Danny Mills is keen to discuss his future with Leeds United boss Peter Reid, according to the player's agent.
Mills was annoyed at not even being on the substitute's bench for Sunday's Premiership opener against Newcastle United and was rocked by Reid's accusation that his attitude had been poor during pre-season training.
The prickly atmosphere between player and manager could lead to Mills leaving Elland Road, even though he only recently signed a five-year deal.
However, Mills' agent, Neil Featherby, is keen for the situation to be resolved amicably.
"Danny, like Peter, is a person who will speak from the heart," he said.
"He is a deep thinker and takes things personally. He is very professional in his outlook and has never had a problem with criticism, but he will react if he feels the criticism is unjust.
"Danny admits he could have played better in the pre-season games, but this is more to do with the training situation which he took exception to.
"He was obviously disappointed not to be involved on Sunday, particularly as he has been in the England squad for the last 18 months.
"His football means a lot to him. He loves the club and is desperate to do well and to be in the first team.
"He can take criticism, but he feels the manager should not have been disrespectful towards his attitude in training.
"I am sure Danny will have a meeting with Peter and I'm hopeful it can be resolved. In fact, I'm sure it can be.
"Danny's got a five-year contract and that's a long time to keep somebody out."
