I noticed recently that Oasis have written a lot of song starting with the letter "S"... 17 18 to be exact.
Which ones do you fancy most?

Can't really listen to Supersonic these days as I much prefer the live version, so I'll say Stand By Me is my favourite. Although that could have been 100x better, too.

I think Supersonic is one of the best recordings Oasis ever made. The production is staggeringly good, considering it was the band's first proper release. Those drums in the intro, and that guitar that comes in with Liam's first line... it still sounds absolutely massive to me, 22 years on. Which live version if your favourite? Stand By Me has so much going on, I'm sure it probably could have been handled better. But I remain confident that, in time, it will be sorted out. It's too good a song to be left alone in its present state. If Noel doesn't "rethink" it like he did D'You Know What I Mean?, remasters (maybe not this one, but subsequent ones) will chip away at the surface and, eventually, we should get to hear more of the keyboards and the strings, and whatever else is hiding in that mix...

I was thinking about it the other day, and I'm honestly not a fan of the production on about 99% of Oasis tunes to be honest. It's probably 'cos I'm a pretty negative thinker, but when I listen to the tune I think the drums aren't heavy enough, the tempo should be higher, the intro riff should be clearer and louder, the bass should be thicker, the backing vocals should be more prominent, Liam should have much more reverb, the riff Noel plays live should definitely be there, the lyrics are poor, the guitar licks in the chorus should be separated further from the vocals, the solo at end should include the lower-pitch riff Noel plays live, etc...This live version in particular would be an improvement IMO if given a studio version with high production values: Stand By Me is a massive missed opportunity IMO. So many great ideas so close to being executed, but often fucked up at the last hurdle. Recorded some beautiful strings? Bury them in guitars. Got a gorgeous harmony for the end of each chorus? Use whiny guitars instead. Wrote a concise pop song? Better make the chorus needlessly long. The strength of the songwriting and Liam's vocals pulls it through, but it could have been a stone cold classic if handled with more care.

Where the fuck is Shakermaker? Well, damn! If you want to vote for Shakermaker, then feel free to write it down in a post. Otherwise, I'm not sure it would be taking up much too many voting shares anyway. ----- No love for... She Is Love, Sittin' Here In Silence (On My Own), or Street Fighting Man? Can't say that I'm all that surprised.
