While Who Built The Moon is my favourite post-Oasis record for its colour and sonic ambition, I have to say that Liam's first solo is comfortably second best.
It's far far superior than Noel's first two albums which I heard back today and I was just shocked again at how drab and dull they are. Now I've just finished listening to Liam's first album again and the contrast is stark. It maintains the traditional sound (that Noel opted for in the first two albums of his too) but its a lot more varied, less plodding and more energetic. The voice inevitably helps too but after three years, it still holds up so well. It's just shocking how badly Noel's first two albums are ageing - barring a few belters, the debut and Chasing Yesterday really is the sound of an apathetic, retro obsessed lazy middle aged man.

AYW is still great indeed.
It's the only album post-split I genuinely truly like from either.
The other 6 albums I doubt I'll ever listen to again.

(In fact better than SOTSOG imo) I liked Noel's first 2 albums at the time but you listen to them a few years on and they're kinda DBTT level to me. A bit throwaway now. (HC is poor obviously. Noel's 1st two albums are better) I've got a soft spot for DOYS cos the highs are so good to me. WMWN and WBTM aren't for me but that opinion is in the minority on here.

Personally I'd listen to all solo albums before DBTT and HC, I still rate DOYS but WMWN is maybe the only one I'd put it over, SOTSOG I'm a fan of, still don't think it's better than the last two Noel solo records (could've been with 2 or 3 swaps)
NGHFB and WMWN aged poorly as a whole for me, but song for song there's quite a few things I willingly listen to, CY and AYW are flawed but absolutely solid, and work very well whenever I go back to them, WBTM is my favourite post-MG release and the one that I think aged better

The River is one of Liam's best studio vocals ever for me. Absolutely love it.

I always enjoy both of Liam's solo albums and they're the only post Oasis albums I listen to nearly every day. As for Noel's I never bother with his first album as I'm not really a big fan of it and never have been, Chasing Yesterday is my favourite out of his three solo albums so I do still listen to that sometimes and as for Who Built The Moon it's an ok album but I don't listen to it much. I still prefer Liam's two albums to be honest.

First thing i thought when i heard Slidin on Paul McCartneys new album was how much does that sound like something off Liams albums. Greg Kirstin credited as "co producer". Gimme a break. Even old Paul needs ghost writers these days. Sticks out like a sore thumb on that tired album.

I love AYW and WMWN, I think that WMWN is better but AYW has something special...I don't know, it feels more raw and it's aging like a fine italian wine.

I love both of Liam's solo albums and I can't choose between them as I always enjoy them every time I listen to them.

One of Us, Once and The River are great (One of Us and Once are top tier Liam solo career songs if we were doing a Top 5 ranking for example), but if we compare the amount of anthems between both albums and AYW wins hands down imo.
Wall Of Glass Bold Greedy Soul When I'm Need Come Back To Me I've All I Need
All in one album! I Get By and You Better Run are good/lovely little tunes too that I always love hearing. No real filler on AYW compared to WMWN.
Not mentioned FWIW cos it's not for me but it's loved so you could mention that too. Paper Crown and Chinatown aren't great but both have their pluses and I still don't mind listening to them.
Only real dud is Universal Gleam imo.

I personally don't think that there's any duds on either of Liam's albums. Ok there's some songs on both albums which I don't like as much as others but I still enjoy them.

AYW just has Liams identity on it. Songs like All I Need and Greedy Soul are so relevant if you've followed his narrative.
As good as WMWN is, it lacks that so much. I was quite worried to hear interviews with his label where they just spoke about how much better the songs were on his 2nd album. I think they're overlooking quite an important point.
Its okay just to point towards album sales and say its formulating results. I think too many more records recorded in the lazy way WMWN was will see the wheels fall off pretty quick.

I think they're both really good albums. Easy to forget that when it came out that Liam was about to embark on a solo career I thought it was going to be horrendous, his voice was shot and he only really knew how to write one kind of song.

Yeah, I was worried about what As You Were would be like when there were talks about Liam releasing a solo album. But thank god that both of his albums turned out to be good and enjoyable.

For me, AYW has a certain charm that WMWN doesn't have (possibly because of the more professional song writing on the latter) but WMWN has a bit of extra punch and focus than AYW. I don't think I could put one album above another though and both are a comfortable 8/10 for me.

Don’t see how you are justifying that the wheels are about to fall off. He just had one of his highest charting singles with pretty much the same team. You might not enjoy the direction personally, but it’s clearly got a sustained audience awaiting the next thing. What else do you need to keep the wheels going round and round? Obviously, Liam is going on 50, is mercurial anyway, and this isn’t forever but I never get all this doomsaying when he so obviously has a strongly devoted fandom for what he is doing that isn’t going anywhere at the moment.

WMWN has better highs, As You Were is a better record Yes! AYW is my go to of the two WMWN has far too many skip this tune moments for me. Raw, visceral Liam over sickly sweet ballads in my camp any day. WMWN 60% listened to the rest ..bye bye
