yeah i'm going for Man United as well! maybe not Neville to score the winner though ;D It'll be Van the Man!! enjoy the Man U - Juve match webby. It should be good - they'll probably play their first choice team as well because they'll want to impress you americans. Man United are desperate to crack america. They want your $$ ;D So Beckham should play! now shadowboxer is happy!! ;D Watch out for Ruud Van Nistelrooy - he's united's star striker and he's soooo good!

I believe we fricken own the team The most successful baseball franchise in the states ( The NY Yankees ) purchased Manu 2 years ago , or am I completly out of line here? I know that it's a joint venture at least .......

you are so out of line webmaster. sort yourself out! ;D well you're right about the joint venture thing. The two clubs entered into a joint marketing agreement a couple of years ago, but there was no change in the ownership of either clubs as far as i'm aware. Man United is owned by a number of shareholders, with JP Magnus as the major shareholder with about 15% i think. Man United is worth over 1billion dollars so i doubt the NY yankees could buy it outright. I think the joint venture thing has gone a bit cold for now - it seems like the american mass market is not quite ready to accept football! you will succumb!! shadowboxer already has! although that might have more to do with Beckham and Owen than football itself

you are so out of line webmaster. sort yourself out! oh man, I thought it was included in the donald rumsfeld doctrin.......... The baseball team and U.K. soccer giant will co-promote their clubs via the Net and other media outlets. While this may attract more fans, it's not going to be much of a money-making venture. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the surface, Wednesday's (2001) announcement of a marketing alliance between baseball's New York Yankees (dossier) and British soccer giant Manchester United would appear to be an ideal marriage of two of the most storied sports dynasties in the world. The lineup, however, may not prove as powerful as billed. The deal is designed to co-promote the clubs - in part by distributing information and merchandise over the Internet - and sell broadcasts to overseas media outlets. The union has unquestionable glamour: It puts tabloid heart throbs Derek Jeter, the New York Yankee shortstop, and David Beckham, Manchester's star midfielder, on the same team. While the pact may impress die-hard fans, it's unclear whether it will do much to improve the megaclubs' bottom lines in the coming years because there's a major hitch: Both teams are subject to restrictions on selling rights to broadcasts of their games. The Yankees, the centerpiece of YankeeNets (dossier)- a recently created partnership that owns the New Jersey Devils (dossier) hockey team and the New Jersey Nets (dossier) basketball franchise - are prohibited by Major League Baseball (dossier) rules on selling live broadcasts outside the New York area. And Man U, as the team is known throughout the soccer-playing world, is currently renegotiating overseas TV rights. It probably won't be able to sell live broadcasts of its games to fans outside the U.K. until the 2004 season. "There is nothing immediate right now," says YankeeNets Chairman and CEO Dr. Harvey Schiller, in summing up the media potential of the deal. Clearly, what the clubs are trying to do is promote each other in markets where the other has a relatively smaller fan base. "It is an alliance that links the greatest franchises in the world," says Man U CEO Peter Kenyon in a meeting with reporters in New York. "This is the start of the process, not the end." One area that the clubs are particularly keen on exploiting is the Internet, and in particular, the e-commerce potential. Kenyon also suggested the alliance would allow the clubs to explore the development of proprietary sports programming that could be repackaged for the Net or other digital media and sold to sponsors. "We are looking for technology to deliver more content to more people in more countries," Kenyon says. "Quite honestly, that's what our fans want." The teams will also be able to share marketing information about their fans, plus develop sponsorships and sell each other's products in their team-owned stores. YankeeNets will also help promote Man U and soccer to youth leagues in the U.S., plus help organize a preseason tour of the U.S. in 2003. While Manchester's reputation is particularly strong in Asia - a region YankeeNets would like to exploit - the team has little recognition in the U.S. market. "Soccer has developed dramatically in the U.S. over the last 10 years, and we believe there is a market for Manchester United content among football fans of all ages", Kenyon says. "With the help of the YankeeNets, we intend to pursue these and other commercial opportunities in the coming years."
