Pre-ordered new Blind Guardian single, but the signed postcard you get with it is hilarious (throwback to Merry Xmas Everybody last year). Good one.

Listening to Idles new album, it sounds like the previous one (Ultra Mono) but even more darker.

Only 3 songs in (+ the singles) but I'm liking the darker, suffocating vibe I think their usual formula had run its course with Ultra Mono After a couple of auditions, I must say I didn't enjoyed Crawler as much as I enjoyed Ultra Mono. I love the obscure and suffocating vibe of their new material but I think these bunch of songs just don't get there. My favourites are When the Lights Come On, Car Crash (superb in the context of the album) and Beachland Ballroom, but there's nothing more that really made me satisfied.

I know we got some Taylor Swift fans on here. Anyone else listen to some of Taylor's new stuff from her re-recorded Red album? The 10-minute version of All Too Well is a fantastic stream of consciousness piece.

New Placebo... Still has the same dark/moody vibes but lacks something... cool song though.

No apologies, Taylor Swift is a good songwriter. Style, Exile, All Too Well, and others are fantastic songs and some of the best-written hit pop songs of the last 20 years.

Black and Blue is such a great if underrated Rolling Stones album, very experimental with influences from reggae, dance, jazz and funk, the Rolling Stones did Black Music better than their peers, it just sounds like part of their own DNA.

Today I learned Freddie Mercury and David Bowie argued at the mixing desk so much, Under Pressure nearly was canned.

Iām still waiting on the new Neil Young and Crazy Horse album that comes out on Friday, but otherwise I think itās safe to say that my favourite album of the year has been Manic Street Preachersā Ultra Vivid Lament. The first song āstill snowing in Sapporoā is probably my favourite Manics song. Thereās a lot of touching moments on this album. As far as their slower, softer albums go, this oneās their best I think.
I liked the sound and approach Idles took with Crawler (a bit of soul, a bit of Joy Division) but the songs arenāt all there, in my opinion. Lots to like but I donāt love it like the first two.
I liked the new Billy Bragg album The Million Things We Never Saw. Itās not a terrific album but half of it I really like. Thereās one or two Iām not keen on but the rest is very satisfying, if youāre in the mood for singer/songwriter kind of thing.
In terms of newer artists, I quite liked the new Snail Mail album Valentine. Thereās some good sounds and songs on it, particularly in the first half.
