It is amazing that Richard Ashcroft is still plugging away despite having done nothing of note since 1997.

I’m going to attempt a top 12 (because I don’t believe 10 is ever enough) Something better beginning Tired of waiting All day and all of the night Where have all the good times gone? Set me free Til the end of the day This is where I belong Two sisters Waterloo sunset Do you remember Walter? Shangri la Strangers This time tomorrow And that’s not even going into the later years, which I really enjoy too! How about yours? In no particular order (except that Waterloo Sunset is my undisputed #1): Waterloo Sunset Strangers No Return I'm not like everybody else Shangri La Village Green Days Till The End Of The Day Autumn Almanac Sunny Afternoon

It is amazing that Richard Ashcroft is still plugging away despite having done nothing of note since 1997. 2008, I'd say - Love Is Noise, Sit and Wonder, a good portion of the Forth material was noteworthy. But before that, outside of Check the Meaning his solo outing was pisspoor and ever since the last reunion he's been in freefall.

I did really enjoy that album when it came out. But yeah. Since then he’s been living out an extended mid life crisis. I thought his solo albums were pretty crap. Break the Night With Colour is the only song I really liked.

Good tune, in the Top Five this week. I'm quite enjoying the whole eighties-revival thing.

Falset are what you get when you mix Genesis, early IQ, Opeth and Muse. Likey. Drummer is James LaBrie's son which unironically led to that cover of Motley Crue

Lil Peep reminds me of Kurt Cobain in a way that they both popularised a genre that's mostly quite rubbish and they both seemed like broken but good hearted people.

Kinda agreed on Forth (although it's no masterpiece) but besides that it's been mostly shit, yet you rarely hear a word against him Guess when you've written the one big thing then you're set for life

Kinda agreed on Forth (alghouth it's no masterpiece) but besides that it's been mostly shit, yet you rarely hear a word against him Guess when you've written the one big thing then you're set for life It certainly was no masterpiece but so much was left on the cutting room floor, whether because of Richard or simply too much was recorded. You could easily shed off dull selections like I See Houses and Valium Skies for Blue Pacific Ocean and All Night Long. Richard having that purple patch of writing songs between 1995 to 1997 was the worst thing to happen to not only The Verve's future as a all time ensemble but to Richard's career as well. He let this rugged Britpop People's champ image go to his head and it's frustrating. His perception became his reality.

Pleasently suprised by this new Manics song. James Dean Bradfield and Nicky Wire are the two coolest dudes from the 90s. Still going strong.

Want to give a shout-out to this fantastic French album I've been hooked on this week: Palais d'argile by Feu! Chatterton. Came out a couple of months ago, and it's a great mix of indie, jazz, funk, electronica - all the coolest hipster staples. Best word to describe it is dynamic - when the songs kick into a chorus, you really feel it. And you feel when they sink back to a groove, as well, like being pulled down by gravity. Worth a listen, even if the album goes on a little (same length as Be Here Now):

Which song would you recommend from a band/artist you have seen several (more than one) times?

Discovered this today, quite unexpectedly. There is apparently some insane guitar music coming out of North Africa.
One song, 11 minutes. Well worth your time. Apparently these guys are becoming quite well known.

Personally I love the live stuff, but out of the studio albums Nomad is the one I listen to the most, Dan Auerbach produced it, I'd say start with that one Deran also got some amazing reviews (and a Grammy nomination)

Absolutely fallen in love with this band in the past week. Brilliant blend of so many genres, all with excellent musicianship, brilliant songwriting, and a fantastic frontman/vocalist. Implore anyone to check them out, can't see how anyone who likes band music could fail to enjoy them - the first song they play here, Compagnons, might be the most delicious piece of music released this year so far. Summer delight.

Summer delight. Definitely have a vibe all their own, rare these days. And named after a poet yet. I do have to say you've gotta be a skinny, madcap Frenchman to pull off that mustache, but luckily, he is. Thanks for recommending this. I’m interested to hear their record.

Can't quite believe this, but A$AP Rocky said that Morrissey is collaborating with him on his new album.
Surreal.
