This year is starting to look pretty good for new albums; Slowdive, possibly JAMC, Parquet Courts in studio, Fontaines DC and probably lots of others I'll enjoy. Hope so. I've not bought a single record so far this year, album or song. I wanna break my duck.

For the first time I haven't found anything yet I would love to get from this year's RSD.

Alright, latest playlist is "Summer Evenings". I'm looking for tunes of a slightly languid, slow-burning nature to soundtrack those last rectangles of sunlight on a lazy July evening. Here's the playlist I have so far: 1. Venice Bitch - Lana Del Rey 2. Cocoa Butter Kisses - Chance the Rapper 3. Cast No Shadow - Oasis 4. Thinking of a Place - The War on Drugs 5. Mambo Sun - T Rex 6. Sunflower - Post Malone 7. Rabi - Bon Iver 8. Put Your Money on Me - Arcade Fire 9. We Never Change - Coldplay 10. People Always Look Better in the Sun - Soko 11. Gone Gone / Thank You - Tyler, the Creator 12. Nights - Frank Ocean All suggestions appreciated. Not fancy 'Strawberry Fields Forever' or 'Penny Lane'? Sgt. Pepper/Magical Mystery Tour-era Beatles always makes me think of summer--perhaps because I associate it with the mythologised Summer of Love.
Neil Young is great at languid slow-burners, stoner hippie king that he is. 'Heart of Gold' and 'Old Man' are two hits that could fit. 'Sail Away' too. Or 'Vampire Blues' for something bluesy.

Strawberry Fields Forever is a good pick! Not sure about Penny Lane, though, that puts me in mind more of a bright summer's afternoon. Probably because of the busy scenes in the lyrics and Macca singing about the "blue Suburban skies", and all that. I've always wanted to get into Neil Young, too, I'll have to check those tunes out.

Oh yeah. You said summer’s evening, didn’t you? You’re right: ‘Penny Lane’ is an early afternoon song, pulsating with Macca’s warm humanity and joyful spirit. ‘Strawberry Fields’ sounds like it’s been sat out in the sun all day, and isn’t going to move anytime soon.

With the virus impacting every aspect of life, I'm just wondering how many big albums slated for release in the near future will be pushed back?
They're not much more than promotional material for worldwide tours these days and as that's where all the money is, I wouldn't be surprised to see big acts push it back until later in the year.

The majority of “sales” these days are streams. Plenty of people got the time to stream away. Albums Im looking forward to are still on track like Pearl Jam and Ed O’Brien.

This feels inevitable to me. I've been looking forward to bands like the Beths and the Libertines who have been recording for a while now, but both of these bands really need their tours to shine. Makes more sense for them to keep their records under wraps until they can tour.

I was skeptic about this Sam Fender guy. I thought he was just another one of those MOR indie kids hyped by the NME, but he's actually pretty fucking good. His debut album is excellent.
This one sounds like Foals covering Echo & the Bunnymen.

I enjoy the live version of Mofo and how immediate the song structure is, and how organic and "big" it all sounds, especially The Edge's raw guitar work. However, nothing can beat the studio version imo. It hits with great intensity that never lets up throughout the song and even builds from the end of the final verse to the final climax at the end. It's just a full-on, amazing song that is sorely underrated in U2's discography but is one of their best imo (same could be said for the Pop album too):

Spotify is fucked. They've deleted almost all Felt albums Well, actually I can still find more of them but the weird thing is that there seems to be two different artist pages for Felt and I can only find the 2nd by searching some of them songs that've been removed. Unfortunately the Ignite The Seven Cannons album I can find that way is the old mix which I don't like.

I didn't know that Travis' "The Man Who" was such a huge success in UK. Sold over 2 millions copies.

I didn't know that Travis' "The Man Who" was such a huge success in UK. Sold over 2 millions copies. It was everywhere that year, the singles were all pretty popular and all on constant rotation on the radio. You do forget how big they became around that time. My god, it's been 20 years already.

Get well Chuck Billy. Why must some people on a particular page be idiots 24/7/365?

It looks like the Smashing Pumpkins’ Machina boxset is finally coming out this year, fittingly for its 20th anniversary. This ones been a long time in the making and the band are referring to the album quite a bit on social media. I’m a very big fan of this album so I’ll definitely be picking this one up.

The descending melody at the start, where is it familiar from? I'm 100% sure I've heard it in another song, I can almost hear the song but not enough to name it and I'm going crazy. Can someone help me?
