Did this for Liam a few weeks ago, got me thinking of what setlist I'd choose for Noel if I had the powah. I'd go with this:
1. Fort Knox 2. Holy Mountain 3. She Taught Me How to Fly 4. Beautiful World 5. Falling Down 6. In the Heat of the Moment 7. The Man Who Built the Moon 8. What a Life! 9. The Death of You and Me 10. Stand By Me 11. All Around the World 12. Let Forever Be 13. Where Did it All Go Wrong? 14. Ballad of the Mighty I 15. The Importance of Being Idle
16. The Masterplan 17. Dead in the Water 18. Half the World Away 19. Don't Look Back in Anger 20. Champagne Supernova

I've been listening to "Rattling Rose" lately and suddenly it dawned on me that this song contains probably the most blatant of Noel's borrowings in recent years, or at least an odd similarity to Edwyn Collins' "A Girl Like You".

The second verse of In the Heat of the Moment is just an instant dopamine rush for me whenever it kicks in.
That loving man ain't no rolling stone...

Song is a beast live too.

To be honest I don't really have a big problem with the na na nas. But yeah, the song does sound better live.

I did an edit of the track without the na-na's. Infinitely better.

I'm listening to some of Noel's live concerts from Radio Virgin in 2018 and before that I was listening to his Isle Of Wight concert from last year and I was thinking just how better some of his songs from his first album sound so much better live. Perhaps it's because there's no choir on the live versions of the songs such as Everybody's On The Run.

I think the band has got a lot to do with it The girls added another dimension to the group both musically and personality-wise, Chris as a drummer is better suited for Noel's music than Jeremy and Gem still has great chemistry with him Sardy's production made it all sound a bit too samey, while the songs live have more dynamics What A Life sounds massive the way they've been doing it on the last couple of tours

But as I've said before on here that I wasn't really a big fan of the choir on the first album.

Sardy's production made it all sound a bit too samey, while the songs live have more dynamics While I don’t deny the players have something to do with it, Noel was also exploring a sound during that period that he more or less got out of his system before CY. There’s a thread that runs through Mucky Fingers Waiting for the Rapture The Turning (Alt) Dream On Which was all trying to write the same kind of song over and over again. He wrote some great songs in that era, but it got very same-y, and it spilled into the other songs he was writing at the time (EOTR, WAL, ASGOG), but he’d moved on by the time of Chasing Yesterday, thank goodness. We don’t need any more of those stompy strummy shouty tracks.

I like Rattling Rose - it’s a Chasing Yesterday tune but far better than some of the dreck on that album. And what a tune A Girl Like You is. Edwyn Collins always had a great singing voice (incidentally he now lives in the same Highland village my family originate from, my great aunt would often bump into him on the street!).

Never forget that Noel Gallagher once called an album "Chasing Yesterday" and started it with the Wonderwall chords and a Beatles reference.

bastardnumber1 was at "NG's new top studio" (-his words) and he managed to have a look at his setlist for "some special gig" around December. He can't remember much cos he "went out for a cig, met some bird and woke up in front of Supernova Heights" here's what he CAN remember Everybody's On The Run Holy Mountain It's A Beautiful World She Taught Me How To Fly This Is The Place Blue Moon Rising Half The World Away Stop Crying Your Heart Out Lord Don't Slow Me Down Roll It Over Idler's Dream Don't Go Away Aka... What A Life! Don't Look Back in Anger

As life is shit and I need to reassure myself with small, useless things, to hear in the space of two weeks that groovy bassline and little guitar solo on Cushin's track and then the effortlessly catchy bridge on CamelPhat's featuring just gave me hope (for Noel's future music I mean, life's still fucked up)

I still hate the fact that my WBTM CD is too big to fit into the regular shelf with the other ones.

Let the storm rage I'd die on the waves But I will not rest While love lies dead in the water
Still brilliant 3 years later
