A version of D'You Know What I Mean? where the spacey guitars of the demo verses, the cataclysmic density of the original choruses, and the sleek strings and bass of the Rethink are all mixed together into one pleasing whole.

Agreed. And, I bet that Harry Staks or whatever his name is won't be in nearly 30 years time.
To be fair to Harry Styles (Harry Staks did make me laugh ), it's just a completely different thing. Harry's no rock and roll star. (And he wouldn't be as famous as he is if he were in 2022.) But he is what they call today a "multi-talent." He sings. He writes. He acts (quite well I can say having seen it.) He can command a huge, devoted fan base who are interested in what he wears and any type of project he's involved with. He'll still be part of the culture for a long time unless he seriously screws up. But it's apples and oranges. (I'm not personally a fan of his music, but there's just no doubt that he's seen as a significant force in the entertainment industry.) I agree with everything you say but I just wanted to point out whenever I hear apples and oranges I still think back to that cringe moment Gem said it on Jools Holland.

Be here Now. Filling 99 tracks on the mixing desk. Fair enough. I get the ambition.
However, I honestly believe the best way to improve the mix tenfold would be to remove all extra tracks for the drums. They're horrendous. Just the one track would do, slightly compressed. The multiple symbols crashing all at once is the worst offense on the album (end of MBM and all the way through GITDS).

I was listening to Moscow Rules and it is fucking great. And after that We're On Our Way Now, and fucking hell, great song, it has that magic that Liam's songs don't have. I became team Noel. But after that I played Once and I became team Liam 🤣 That voice, attitude. It is so obvious what we need, so fucking obvious. They would better than ever in this century. Fucking hell, come on guys.

Ofc.
But really, without knowing about Oasis, if Oasis never existed, it is so natural to put those two guys to work together, I would do that if I was boss of some big record company.
They are perfect together, it is so rare and special to have two guys like that working together and that is why they were so great and why we love them so much.
Noel is still the best pop/rock songwriter in UK today and Liam is best frontman.
Noel just has to do what he does best, Liam too, and they are invincible.
Fuck how good production is, bass...fuck Andy Bell🤣

I read on Twitter yesterday that on 4th June 2009 Oasis played one of their gigs at Heaton Park. Is it really that long ago since those gigs in Manchester?

Was those gigs that a 12-year-old me begged my dad to take me to. He said "I reckon you're still a tad young for an outdoor gig, but on their next tour I promise we'll go". And we all know how that worked out.....

If you did Knebworth 22 you’ve already gone as high as high gets!

But yes, I was there Saturday and you could be right. Was an out-and-out blast. Didn’t know the setlist or that Squire had made an appearance Friday so was all a surprise, great atmosphere and the whole show was top.

Around 2010 I watched the COMS video, and he sounds pretty rough. I still don’t dare watch that ‘04 Glastonbury set, as I hear he’s nearly as bad as Ian Brown was at Reading in ‘96. I guess I just didn’t know all that back then though, so it hurt at the time to know I wouldn’t see them.

Playing all of those songs that slowly didn't do him any favours but he did sound actually pretty decent for most songs. The DBTT tour was full of gigs where he performed much worse.

I was listening to a live version of Everybody's on the Run the other day. Does anyone else keep hearing "you gotta be strong enough for love, come on you know"? Now here's some inspiration for James Hargreaves' next Youtube clip!

So another new record. WTSMG is now in joint second place for most weeks by a studio album on the UK Album Chart, with 544 weeks. Charting at #22 this week after Knebworth. One more week and it will be second outright behind Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours.
Also the highest Time Flies has gotten in a while at #14, while Liam has two albums in the Top 40 and Wonderwall makes the Singles Chart at #99.
Not a bad week.

I am playing with GPT-3 (Google it if you don't know what it is). I tried the prompt: "Write the lyrics for an Oasis song" and you can see the results below. It seems to me that for a very reasonable price Noel and Wyatt could not need to write lyrics anymore ! Test 1: Write the lyrics for an Oasis song So let's start a revolution Sing it for the kids who want to change the world We can be anything that we wanna be If we just believe in ourselves So let's start a revolution Yeah, a revolution Sing it for the people who wanna be free We can be anything that we wanna be If we just believe in ourselves We're not gonna take it any more No, we're not gonna take it We're not gonna take it anymore So let's start a revolution Sing it for the kids who want to change the world We can be anything that we wanna be If we just believe in ourselves Test 2: Write the lyrics for an Oasis song I need somebody to show me the way I can't keep living this way I want somebody to take me away I can't keep living this way I've been searching for someone To help me see the light I've been looking for someone To show me the way I need somebody to show me the way I can't keep living this way I want somebody to take me away I can't keep living this way Test 3: Write the lyrics for an Oasis song of What's the story morning Glory We've been living in the shadows Of a world we've created And we don't know how to break free We're searching for something more Than what we've been given And we don't know where to find it But we're not giving up We'll never give up What's the story morning glory? What's the story morning glory? We've been living in the shadows Of a world we've created And we don't know how to break free We're searching for something more Than what we've been given And we don't know where to find it But we're not giving up We'll never give up What's the story morning glory? What's the story morning glory?
