Do you ever find yourself wondering why you like certain things - e.g. TV program's, films, music, food, books, etc, yet they are peculiar to your usual tastes.
Say you are a heavy metal fan but are prone to a bit of George Michael, or you love reading quantum physics but find that little bit of room for 50 Shades of Grey, or you are a hard case who is a fan of Chuck Norris and Steven Seagal films, yet never miss an episode of Antiques Roadshow?
I just say this, because I've just willingly watched episodes of Michael Portillo's documentary on railways on iplayer. Dunno why, it's not the usual type of thing I watch. But I think it's great!

I usually dont listen to oldies but fucking Phill Collins. Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Lethal Bizzle - Can't stand his music but he seems like an absolutely top guy.
River City - I dislike all soap operas but this one has a certain cult status. I've only watched a couple of episodes but I didn't absolutely hate it the same way as other soaps.

Never been a big fan of any sort of metal at all, but I'll find myself listening to Metallica at times. Same with rap. I'm not a big fan of it, but sometimes I'll find myself immersed in a song like The Real Slim Shady, rapping along to each line like there's no tomorrow & not a care in the World. It's odd...

"Escape To The Country" on BBC 1. Normally I would find a TV prog. like this boring, but for somehow I like to watch it. Beautiful British landscape and beautiful houses, but shame that I can never afford the houses they offer.

^ Oh God I love stuff like that. Especially the British country sides. I also like silly programs like Bed & Breakfast UK. And shows about houses like Huizenjacht. I love seeing different architecting (?) styles and interiors and designs.
I feel like such an elderly woman typing this!

I stumbled across a great BBC Radio 4 programme called the Listening Project recently. I don't often listen to the station but I heard this show by chance and really enjoyed it. Each episode presents conversations between two close friends or relatives, giving an insight into some important aspect of their lives. I think it can be quite powerful to hear people's life stories conveyed in conversation like that. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01cqx3bEdit: All the episodes so far are on iPlayer radio. This is the first one I heard. bbc.in/1EpqlI5

Music wise... I'm not a huge fan of heavy metal but there are a handful of songs in the genre that I love. Motorhead - Ace of Spades is one. Can't get into their other stuff but to me this is a classic.
As an aside, I think I first heard the song while watching a repeat of the episode of the Young Ones in which they randomly turn up and play it...

Couldn't agree more about Lethal Bizzle, if you're a Snapchat user I recommend you add him on that for daily entertainment. Had the absolute pleasure of accidentally seeing him when he played near me in September.

I also really enjoy watching Time Team, I love all that sort of stuff - fascinating finding remnants of things that aren't there anymore.

Franck Nivard's nose (No clue why) Heavy metal fan, but you'd be oddly surprised to find me a fan of both John Farnham (up til Romeo's heart) and Tina Turner

The occasional pop song, with Lady Gaga's Telephone & Kelly Clarkson's Since U Been Gone being two of the better ones. I totally respect Psy's Gangnam Style. That song combined with that video was bound to be a recipe for success. There's something good about Peaches' The Teaches of Peaches [LP]. Despite the disturbingly constant, crude, sexual lyrics and pretty basic music backing it, it's weirdly alright. It's like raw, angry, pop music. Leashed. Die Antwoord. I'd never own any of their stuff, but the occasional Youtube visit is a worthy visit.
