As Jim mentioned Rangers need a proper scouting system in place for Warburton to work best but I think he'll be a good appointment. McCoist's signing policy seemed to purely be players he'd worked with and players who had played well against him and on the few occasions he went outside that he ended up with Mohsni and Faure.
Clearly the resources are there to try and build a squad of young players both from the youth system and other clubs to sit alongside some more experienced players but it's about getting a system in place in order for that to work. Admittedly I don't know too much about most of the youth players but I guess Ryan Hardie and Tom Walsh will get more of a chance after looking alright in their few appearances last season. We had Luca Gasparotto on loan last season and for me he was the best defender in the league. Strong, good in the air and very assured for such a young age, he won our young player of the year and perhaps more tellingly players player of the year. I'd certainly put him ahead of all Rangers centre backs from last season bar Darren McGregor (though that isn't saying much) and I'd say he's definitely good enough to push for a first team place.

The games which I saw Brentford are an encouraging sign for the style of football he likes play which can only be an improvement on the last 4 years. He also seems to have a good record working with youth players and he was also heavily involved with Next Gen European U-20 tournament which ran for a couple of years before UEFA started the youth Champions League. Glad big Davie Weir is involved too. We need a proper infrastructure once more, a scouting department to identify guys like Andy Robertson like Dundee United did even though we were the team he played against in the 3rd division! I'm not Dave King's biggest fan but at least he has made a good choice with Warburton, more progressive than going back to McLeish or McCall. I'd have liked Cathro to be involved, maybe with the youth set up but I can't see it right now. To be honest when it comes to Rangers I've seen more passion, commitment and talent on show at my 5 a sides than I have at Ibrox in the last 3 years. I know McCoist had a lot to put up with off field but that doesn't excuse the piss poor tactics (lack of), the poor fitness levels and downright stupidity of signing players like Ian Black or giving Kyle Hutton a 1 year extension over signing Scott Allen last summer. And all on a yearly wage of over £700k a year, scandalous he took, and still takes, that kinda cash for managing in the lower divisions. Hopefully this is the kick start to some stability and I can get back to talking about football rather than financial shite, been a hard few years I must say! I honestly think your woes have been compounded by terrible managers since Walter Smith left. Not one of them would I touch with a barge pole even for Inverness. But, yes, Warburton's a very exciting appointment judging by the excellent style of play he applied to Brentford. His stock is high at the moment for almost getting them to the Premier League so it proves the pulling power of Rangers I suppose, which begs the question, why weren't they seeking out managers of similar ability in previous years? McCoist was never a manager and should never have gotten the job in the first place. He got it on Walter's say so and unfortunately to this day Smith still stands by him. I can understand that based on their personal relationship but in no way based on Ally's complete lack of tactical awareness and constant use of "experience" over youth. McCall was never getting the job full time. Unfortunately for him he had to work with an arrogant and poor squad and unable to add his own players but even then he drew to many games and also threw away leads. He tried to shoehorn in McCulloch all the time and shut up shop to early in too many games by throwing on the screwball Moshni for 20 minutes which is suicide. He won less than half his games, even McCoist had a better record than that. We have some descent youngsters in the ranks but apart from Lewis MacLeod, who that vagina of a board sold for peanuts, none were given a chance. Fraser Aird couldn't cross the road never mind a ball yet was constantly picked, his confidence ended up shot and was dropped as soon as McCall came in. As Kingcrawler said, Gasparatto is a cracking centre half yet we played McCulloch, Ryan Cinnammon is a classy right back, we played Ricky Foster who's only thing going for him is his missus is Amy MacDonald, both Hardie and Walsh made impacts when played yet we got stuck with Stevie Smith and Ian Black. Kris Boyd had a poor season but as a natural goalscorer he was given no service. McCoist and McDowell have a lot to answer for.

Will be interesting to see what kind of players he brings in. A bunch of carthorses from The Championship?

Allegedly Lewis MacLeod could be returning and I've seen some folk mention Scott Allan on Twitter but that'll just be a load of shite I'd imagine. Warbuton spoke well at the press conference, seems interested in pursuing the youth angle, academy needs to be the heart of the club. He needs a keeper, I've never been impressed with Cammy Bell and that howler he made against Motherwell was shocking. Also need a right back, two centre halves, pace in the wide areas and a goalscorer.... No asking for much am I?

Possibly a shout, he played alongside Davie Weir before he moved to Liverpool a few years ago.

Good or bad for United Globe? I'm personally no a fan of the guy at all and after all the carry on with McNamara's contract / transfer cut being played out in public I reckon your better off without him being involved. Any chance of your fans doing a Foundation of Hearts style ownership?

Any chance of your fans doing a Foundation of Hearts style ownership? Well, he's not covered himself in glory since Colin and Justin signed for Celtic in January, but looking at the bigger picture he's done a very good job overall since his dad passed away. If he does leave, his sister will take over so I doubt the club will move in another direction, so can't see a fan ownership model any time soon.

What do you think a fan ownership would entail at United? There was that protest a few months back, when the supporters group voiced their unhappiness at the way the club was being run but I can't remember what the complaints were.

What do you think a fan ownership would entail at United? There was that protest a few months back, when the supporters group voiced their unhappiness at the way the club was being run but I can't remember what the complaints were. The complaints were about selling GMS and Armstong to Celtic in January when were were about to play them in he League Cup final a few weeks later. The fact that Jackie gets a cut of transfer money was also leaked and that has turned a lot of fans against both the manager and Thompson. It had to be said that the fans group who leaked that info don't represent the majority of United fans. Don't get me wrong, they do lots of great work and have raised lots of money for youth football etc, but they are led by some people who seem to think they are some kind of "super fan". One guy in particular (who was a teacher at my secondary school actually so I have seen up close what a loon he is), is aff his head.

What's your teams kit like this year? I'm not buying the Fat Mike "Sports Direct" official tops as Rangers are reportedly only getting £3.50 from the £48 price... And in saying that, forget paying that for a football top in the first place! Attachments:

I am thinking of buying the fans unofficial top though, £32 and over £10 is going into the Rangers Supporters Trust share pot for the future Rights / Share issue later this year so more money will go to the club. Attachments:

Still hate our home kit, it's two different colours of red and also a slightly different red to the shorts. Not to mention the barbers pole socks.

Speaking of strips, what's your all time favourite strip your club has had? Mine is our V neck Adidas shirt from 86/87. Seen here modelled by the lads in the Camp Nou just before they got Barcelona telt. Again.

There's a great website that documents every kit from a club's history. www.historicalkits.co.uk/Scottish_Football_League/Scotland_Index.htmLooking back at them, my favourite would probably be this one... I still haven't been able to get hold of one unfortunately but I've bought a few of the ones from the early to mid 90s. We've not really had many bad strips over the years, compared to some other teams. EDIT: I don't know why it won't show the image in my post but it's the one from our 1998/99 season.

This is a favourite as it's the first shirt I remember as a kid, brings back memories of Davie Cooper. Attachments:

Out away top was launched today, another generic Nike effort. I saw Scott Fraser was one of the players promoting it. Hope that means he'll be part of the first team squad as he was great in his loan spell with us last season. Not sure he's quite at Premiership level just yet but given time he could be a reasonable replacement for Armstrong.

Fixtures out tomorrow at noon. For some reason I'm convinced we'll be away to St. Mirren on the first day.
