Riverman reminds me of a REALLY REALLY GOOD Dido track - it has that chilled vibe. Dido as in the one that sang Life For Rent, White Flag etc? Yip. The thought popped into my head when I was listening to it.

1. Riverman (10/10)This is perfection. It's pure magic and it's so fresh... Loved it since the shitty recording we've got a few weeks ago. I honestly think it's one of the best things Noel's ever done. 2. In The Heat Of The Moment (7/10)Nice little tune. Catchy as hell and good first single choice, I guess. And I like the nananas! 3. The Girl With X-Ray Eyes (8/10)This is very good. It's very different from the usual acoustic-based songs that Noel come up with. It doesn't have a catchy hook or a big chorus, but it is beautiful as it is. I'm digging it. 4. Lock All The Doors (8.5/10)Oasis by numbers. I did like the new verses, but it's unfair to compete with the chorus, which is one of the best of the album. It ends fast, it's a nice ride. 5. The Dying Of The Light (9.5/10)At the first listen I thought it was a bit weird, maybe unexpected. At the second I realized that the weird here was me. This is awesome. Of course I had listen to the soundcheck version, but this is... darker. Good lyrics and yes, an anthem. 6. The Right Stuff (10/10)Smooth, trippy, smokey... whatever you want. Pure magic again. And it's also catchy!!! 7. While The Song Remains The Same (8.5/10)It grows on me after every listen... especially the chorus. I think it's very good. Its got this melancholic vibe that I really like. Reminds me a bit of Falling Down. Great lyrics! Maybe the best of the album. 8. The Mexican (8/10)I'm the only one that thinks this is delicious? You can dance all the way through the song! It makes me smile. The riff is catchy and reminds me of summer. 9. You Know We Can't Go Back (8/10)I wasn't liking it last night, but I gave it a blast this morning and what I can say is that it's full of energy. Reminds me of summer again. It's aaaaaaalright... 10. Ballad Of The Mighty I (9/10)An eternal grower, it seems. It's always better than the last time you hear it. Works even better on the context of the album. Great closer. Overall: 8.5/9Amazing production, very cohesive album and IMO the best thing he's done since WTSMG till now. My feeling is that it will age well, it's so fresh to not do so. Loving this album and CAN'T WAIT to hear it in proper quality. Well done, Noel!

Ok, I've just listened to it for the first time and I don't like it very much. I have to listen to it more times to have a proper opinion but here is my first impression:
Riverman 6
In The Heat of The Moment 7.5
The Girl With the X-Ray Eyes 5
Lock All The Doors 5.5
The Dying of the Light 8.5
The Right Stuff 7
While The Song Remains the Same 6.5
The Mexican 7.9
You Know We Can't Go Back 8.5
Ballad of the Mighty I 7.5
The whole album: 7

After a few listens, ok, well maybe like 10, or 20? 25? Anyway, I think I can give an honest score for the album. Riverman (5/5) In the Heat of the Moment (3.5/5) The Girl with X-Ray Eyes (3/5) Lock All the Doors (4.5/5) The Dying of the Light (5/5) The Right Stuff (4.5/5) While the Song Remains the Same (4/5) The Mexican (3.5/5) You Know We Can't Go Back (4.5/5) Ballad of the Mighty I (3.5/5) So overall that's like what, 4/5? Such a well produced album. Riverman and TDOTL are classics IMO. ITHOTM is still really catchy just uninspired compared to the rest of the album. I wish DTD could've officially been on it somewhere. X-Ray Eyes is my least favorite track, it sounds nice tho, so that speaks volumes about this album. LATD is missing LGs touch without a doubt but Noel holds his own here. The biggest surprise for me is the Right Stuff, such a hypnotizing track, it could go on forever, it's pure sex for the ear. The Song Remains the Same was kind of a grower for me, but I can totally accept it now. It's like Part of the Queue, both took me a while to take in. The Mexican is what it is lol. Like ITHOTM, it's harmless. I picture a stripper wailing on a cowbell. Finally, Mighty I is perfectly fine as a closer, but I just can't see why it was a single. I respect it for sure, but I feel We Can't Go Back should've been the real closing track. It plays so well with the title 'Chasing Yesterday'. I'm loving it... Best Valentine's Day ever! Interesting that you marked it out of 5 when every other review previously posted on this thread was marked out of 10. It's a little tricky to make accurate comparisons from review to review when it's like that but I will join in. I will mark my review with erect body parts, each penis represents half a mark, so 20 equates to 10 out of 10, 16 is an 8. You get my drift.

I've only been on Oasis forums since 2004, but this is the first time I've ever seen an album get universal acclaim when it leaks. The albums usually get a 75/25 positive/negative split with some of the more respected posters trying to temper peoples enthusiasm giving a mean rating of 6/10 but everyone seems to like this which is brilliant!
I think it's about 10% better than HFB 1 (Which was my favourite Gallagher album since BHN) but that 10% just makes so much difference to the albums enjoyability. Every song is between 7.5-9/10, every song could have been the lead 'teaser' and the production is lightyears ahead of anything Sardy-fyed.
If the Beatles reformed in the late 70's (ignoring their solo tastes at the time) and made an album it would sound a lot like this

1. Riverman 10/10Loungy-dreamy kind of tune is what I call it. The saxophone at the end is very Pink Floydesque. 2. In The Heat of the Moment 9/10Apart from the 'NaNaNaNas' this song is brilliant. Easily gonna hit dance floors in my opinion. 3. The Girl With X-Ray Eyes 10/10Impossible not to notice the references to 'The Masterplan' and 'Hotel California', but still Noel all in all. Huge grower, gets better after each listen. Sounds like the tune that would suit a film easily. 4. Lock All The Doors 10/10Oh my fucking god. This is pure 90's. Shoegazer. Oasis. Liam could sing it! HAHA Noel's voice and the whole vibe to the song are feet-on-the-door. Minor reference to 'Bring it on Down'. Reminds also 'The Fame' a bit? 5. The Dying Of The Light 10/10Started crying when I heard the intro. Just beautiful. Is it Mike Rowe playing in the background? He nails his atmosphere in Noel's songs every single time. End solo reminds me of The Smiths. 6. The Right Stuff 9/10I mean, it's a fucking ambitious album. There's nothing obvious in it. This song encapsulates what I just said. The drumming, the tempo of the song, the backing vocals, the whole vibe really. Never heard a song like this before coming from Noel, that's for sure. Still growing on me. Can feel some of the influence of Amorphous Androgynous in this tune. 7. While The Song Remains The Same 8/10Then again, the space-psychedelia-ethereal intro. New horizons once again. Noel really heading into new landscapes here. 8. The Mexican 8/10Not my favourite, but getting better after each listen. 9. You Know We Can't Go Back 9/10The album picks up again that 90's spirit here. Sun, fast things happening, just a really good vibe to it. 10. Ballad of the Mighty I 10/10The whole groove to it really makes it a one-off tune. Very smart call closing the record with this tune. Noel's voice is also superb on this one. The way the song grows is tremendous. Looking forward to hear this live. Bring on the b-sides!
