What are people's opinions of him? He doesn't get much mention but he's been part of the Oasis 'circle' particularly Noel's since 1999. He had a major influence on SOTSOG by playing on most tracks including lead guitar on FITB. He played the solo on Roll It Over and now apparently on Riverman he plays the killer solo.
He did backing vocals on a few early 2000s besides. It's kind of weird to think that the same band that put out the rocking and raw Definitely Maybe had a track (Idler's dream) with just Noel, Paul Stacey, and a Piano.
Noel seems to trust him to produce/mix.
I know fans complain about his brother but I'm wondering what people think of Paul Stacey's influence on Oasis/NGHFB.

I'm always wondering why Noel didn't play those solos himself.
Anyway, Paul does a great job. Shame not many people know that.

Undoubtedly a trusted and important colleague to Noel over many years now. So yes, he's definitely in the "unsung hero" category, along with the likes of Mark Coyle.

More info about him and his contributions (though they're missing a few) in his wikipedia entry, never knew he was in the Black Crowes for a short time: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_StaceyHe really was like an unofficial sixth member of Oasis, alongside Terry Kirkbride and Mark Coyle, of course. He was involved in much of Noel's demoing from 1998 onwards. His influence on the High Flying Birds even seems to be bigger. I never even knew how he looked liked until today.

To me, Paul Stacey is the "True MVP" for Oasis. He's helped out significantly, whether it be the hard times of SOTSOG, or reorganizing their sound (HC), or working as a sound engineer. His contribution is second to only Noel, really. He's quite a musician, too, and it shows with some of the great songs he's worked on, like the aforementioned Idler's Dream and Roll it Over.

According to Wikipedia
"Who Feels Love?" - Bass, backwards guitar, engineer "The Hindu Times" - Mellotron, engineer "Little By Little"/"She Is Love" - Hammond organ ("Little By Little"), engineer "Let There Be Love" - Piano, mellotron
"Stacey did work for Oasis in a number of different capacities between 1999 and 2008. Originally brought in to engineer Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000), he performed a number of other roles as the band suffered line-up issues for the recording of the album, particularly contributing bass guitar work in the absence of the band's bassist Paul McGuigan. Stacey played bass on 4 songs - "Who Feels Love?", "Gas Panic!", "I Can See a Liar" and "Roll It Over". He also contributed keyboards and lead guitar to "Fuckin' in the Bushes", the guitar solo in "Roll It Over", backwards guitar to "Who Feels Love?" and acoustic guitar to "Where Did It All go Wrong?". Later, at the end of 2000, he co-produced their first live album/video, Familiar to Millions. Stacey would return for all subsequent Oasis releases. Two years later, Stacey would return to assist significantly on the band's next release, Heathen Chemistry (2002), engineering and contributing keyboards/hammond organ/mellotron to five tracks - "The Hindu Times", "Force of Nature", "Hung in a Bad Place", "Better Man" and "Little by Little". On the b-side to the "Little By Little"/"She Is Love" double-A single, Stacey provided guitar and backing vocals to the band's studio-live cover of "My Generation" by The Who, making Stacey one of only a handful of musicians to contribute guest vocals to an Oasis track. For 2005's Don't Believe the Truth, he mixed "Mucky Fingers" and contributed piano/mellotron on "Let There Be Love". Stacey also mixed and played piano on "Let There Be Love" b-side "Sittin' Here In Silence (On My Own)" during these sessions. For the recording of Dig Out Your Soul (2008), Stacey was involved in the production, though none of his work was included in the main album. Stacey produced/mixed "The Turning (Alt Version #4)", included on special editions of the album, and "Waiting For The Rapture (Alt Version #2)", included on the special edition and a b-side on Japanese copies of single "I'm Outta Time". Stacey also produced "These Swollen Hand Blues", included as a b-side on the "Falling Down" single."

iirc he doesn't appear on any of the DVDs or EPKs. You'd expect him to turn up somewhere or have played live at some point. Maybe he's only interested in playing music and not any kind of limelight.
