It's a so and so-okish b side,but i m not sure if i want to hear it more than a few -random- times...!
Imo it could work better without the annoying "Hey Jude" piano parts.
"I'd Pick You Everytime" was a lovely little gem, "Boneheads Bank Holiday" was a funny little britpop classic, even "She is Love" sounds better.
In every case he should keep it as a b side and not as an album track.

I love this song, is just that the annoying transitional hey jude piano notes, they are too distractive. How weird, Noel normally has a good ear for this details. He is just having a laugh.

Think the good rebel was a good track myself I don't really get the hate for this tune, to be honest. I think it's great even though it was probably the worst thing to come out of the last album cycle (which says a lot about its quality). I really like the chorus and the drum pattern (with the change in the middle of the song) mimicking Ticket to Ride. If it really comes from the Heathen Chemistry era, it's easily one of the best songs from that period. It's probably the most Noel has ever apes off The Beatles. I mean it sounds like a lost studio demo from the Revolver sessions for crying out loud. Like their first attempt at "Rain". I can see why Noel didn't have it on HC, DBTT or DOYS. Same reason a song like "She Must Be One of Us" probably won't see the light of day. It's a complete Bob Dylan rip off from Blonde On Blonde.  |

Yet people have no issues with songs like Waiting for the Rapture, Mucky Fingers, Who Put The World..., Shout it Out Loud, etc.? You may argue that these tracks are of course better than The Good Rebel, but they are as obvious in terms of ripping off another artist. As a matter of fact, they rip off one specific song each (two in the case of SIOL), whereas The Good Rebel (leaving aside the drum pattern) apes the style of a band at a point in time (that being transitional, mid-60s Beatles). And that's just looking at post-SOTSOG Noel-sung tracks. I'm simply not buying that people get touchy when Noel rips off something, since we all got used to that long ago. I think the issue here is that for once he was copying something people could recognize immediately, whereas they might not spot the similarities on the other tracks as fast. TL;DR version: You may argue the song is shit, but the "it's shit because it's a rip-off" argument doesn't work when dealing with Noel-penned songs. |

Its good, it's alright. I think it's a tune, worthy of b-side or bonus track. Don't get any of the hate for this (or The Good Rebel for that matter, I enjoy more than half of the album tracks from HFB1)....yes it sounds like The Beatles, but so what, it's fun

Gotta admit that right now it's the only new song I don't feel like listening to again, at all. Might be because the rest of the album and b-sides are so good, but anyway, this one falls short quite a bit.

The song is also an indication of the good frame of mind Noel's in right now - I can't see a fun piece like this being recorded (and released) for any of his other post 1997 albums. Can you imagine this being recorded during the po-faced DIG OUT YOUR SOUL sessions? Even his first solo album played it too safe to include this sort of fun (even as a bonus track). |
