Short 3 min version is acoustic instrumental. Long 4 min version is a Be Here Now demo. So are we missing one of the intended mustique demo's now ? Just looked on the oasis website and it says it should be the 4.48 version ? Both versions are on the interwebs so we're not missing anything :-) As to what will be on your CD when you buy it nobody knows - people are reporting getting both but it looks like last minute the management tried to swap the vocal for the instrumental.

And here's 'Honky Tonk Woman' for anyone who's curious: I mean it's not the worst rip off in the world, especially with the amount of stuff Noel's got away in the past. Has anyone other than Noel sampled this as a drum loop for songs? It sounds like it could've been one of the more popular ones but of course Jagger/Richards are stuck up immensly deep into their own bottoms

It would have to be a direct sample for The Stones to block it, not just a drum pattern that sounds similar. Is that the case? I'm on the move so can't compare properly.

That's madness, oh well nothing you can do. At least where getting all the other unreleased stuff we didn't have before.

I think it is an exact sample, down to the cowbell but others will have a better ear than me. I did pretty much immediately think of Honky Tonk Woman when I heard it which is unusual in itself as I don't really like the song and haven't heard it in years. I'm guessing Noel completely forgot about it until recently and they left it too late to get it sorted.

Doesn't that ambient intro on the mustique demo of DYKWIM sound ethereal ?

I'm only two thirds through the Mustique demos and it's pretty amazing how far along these demos for Be Here Now were in early 1996. Outside some beefing up, polishing and Liam's killer vocals, this is pretty much how the album sounds. For almost two decades I imagined the Mustique tapes to be all acoustic and maybe a simple drum machine. Not complaining at all just surprised how fully formed these songs are.
If I was on holiday in the Caribbean with Johnny Depp and super models, not sure the first thing I'd be doing is running to a makeshift studio with my producer to record pretty much final versions of the future Be Here Now album. Maybe Noel worked best with no other band members anywhere near him. Who knows. Perhaps there were acoustic takes of these songs recorded prior to this holiday. Can't picture Noel doing all this work on the spot.
Also I guess Noel really did have severe writer's block because he didn't really write much between summer 1996 and 1999.

My inclination is Noel had the melodies, arrangement and structure for most of the songs on Be Here Now for a few years at least...I wouldn’t be surprised if the only two songs he wrote that year were D’You Know What I Mean and Magic Pie...the rest all seem older, and all he did on Mustique was record them and finish off lyrics. It would certainly explain the writers block in the years to follow...because his backlog of songs had finally dried up.

Does anyone know if you get links to the digital download if you bought from the official Oasis store? I've resisted the temptation to listen to the leak but not sure if my boxset will arrive tomorrow or not, was a day or two late for DM and WTSMG (which is ridiculous considering they charge you 10 (TEN) fucking pounds for delivery). Want to make sure I get to listen to these tomorrow!

Noel's AATW early demo is pretty amazing, he's got a youngster voice that seem to say "yeah i've written the best fuckin song since Hey Jude"
