Buffon returns to Juventus after a year at PSG. Won't be No. 1 again though which isn't a surprise really. So what was the point in him even leaving Juventus in the first place? This comeback is just weird. Once you leave a club like that with all the tears and the speeches that come with it, then you leave and don't come back. You can't say goodbye twice.

FAQ: no one in the U.S.A. really gives a shit about the U.S. women's soccer winning the World Cup; there's not a lot going on in sports right now....it's funny how the person occupying the White House right now, gets into it with athletes, again.....I bet any one of those women would beat his ass.
Thanks.

Soccer's a novelty sport in the U.S.......the women's team is an example of if the U.S. took soccer seriously; like if the best U.S. male athletes played the sport, the U.S. would dominate it, and I mean dominate.... Soccer's like the fifth most popular sport in the U.S...... Thanks.

Most other nations have their athletes spread around a variety of sports. You can also be a genius in one sport and shit at others, i could not see Tom Brady as a soccer player yet he is one of the greatest sportsmen of all time.

Not sure of soccer's popularity in Australia, I assume it's the most popular sport in Australia, or maybe rugby, I don't know; well, soccer's about the 5th most popular sport in the U.S.....behind American football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and probably even golf.....nowadays even great atheletes play golf, see Tigers Woods, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, etc.....pool all that talent from other sports, make soccer the most popular sport in America, the results would be dramatically different. Look at basketball, the rest of the world is catching up the U.S.A., admittedly, but a team made up of LéBron James, Kawhí Leonard, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry isn't even getting beat by combining the best players from around the world on one team, the world vs. U.S.A.......there even is that actual scenario in golf, with the Ryder and President's Cup, the U.S.A. vs. Europe, etc.....one country vs. multiple. I honestly believe there's something in the water in the U.S., like we're breeding super humans, that's a little silly, but not far off.... I did also say in my post from yesterday but erased, I didn't even know country's national team players were paid; I thought they all played for love of country....had I known of monetary incentive I wouldn't have retired from soccer at the age of 7. It doesn't really matter, when you are kid, you try both football and basketball. If you are talented, you will continue to play one of those sports. It's not like that there are some parts of Serbia where nobody knows what basketball is. There is great system and organisation in Serbia, if you are talented or even just tall, scouts will find you and invite you to training camp for the club that they are representing. I don't think that there is someone in Serbia who is actually born to be basketball player but when he was kid, he didn't even know what basketball is or didn't have right coaches, facilities to develop. Out of 10 best European coaches of all time, at least 4 of them are Serbians, with Obradovic being the number one without any doubt. Don't forget that Serbia was part of Yugoslavia and Yugoslavia was top 3 basketball nation with USSR and USA. We have great tradition and organisation. But Yugoslavian basketball was created here in Belgrade and since 1991, we were still called Yugoslavia but it was only Serbian players playing for that team. We won 3 World Cups, 3 European Championships and two silver on Olympics. Last World Cup(2014) - USA gold, Serbia silver Last Olympics(2016) - USA gold, Serbia silver And check odds for World Cup this year. So no, Spain is not second. USA is best because of African American players. I mean, I am always afraid to talk about this with westerners, there is always someone who will say that you are racists, but those are the facts. I can only be racist towards white people. Black people are more athletic and therefore more talented for sports like basketball. LéBron James, Kawhí Leonard, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry, those are the players that Let It Bleed mentioned and they are all black. USA has great basketball organisation and 40 million African Americans, ofc that they will find 50 great basketball players in every moment. France become one of the best basketball nations and won Eurobasket in 2013 with Parker, Diaw, Batum...all black people. If France had number of black people as USA and a little more developed basketball organisation, they would be good as USA. So no, there is not something in the water in the U.S as Let It Bleed said. There was something in the water in tennis as well until whole world started to play tennis. There were only guys and boys from USA, UK, Sweden... But today girl from Romania won Wimbledon and tomorrow will boy from Serbia. And even having that much African Americans will not help U.S. for a long time. Look at the list of of best NBA players under 25. 1. Giannis - Greece 2. Jokic - Serbia 3. Embiid -Cameroon 4. Towns - Dominican Republic 5. Simmons - Australia 6. Doncic - Slovenia 7. Porzingis - Latvia hoopshype.com/2019/01/28/top-25-nba-players-under-25/

China puts billions into developing players in both football and Basketball and theres very little progress. It would take a lot of effort to be become a powerhouse in football. If the US took football seriously you could get a decent league that would challenge European soccer, because money obviously, but its not as easy as you might think. It would take generations of developing players to be on European or south american level.

the whole world always played tennis and there were many major winners and world no.1's from many countries. you forgot about the germans, czechs, austrlalians, swiss'.
in the end we're trying to make the same point tho. the world can catch up to the US in its sports, but its very unlikely the opposite would happen.

I would take American professional athletes at certain sports, for instance, basketball guards and small forwards; defensive and running backs in NFL football, and start from there in fielding a soccer team......fabulous footwork, fast and athletic. And, to Rocketman, no these American atheletes wouldn't quit their respective sports and immediately dominate soccer, it would take years to develop a lot of talent; but it would happen....there's tons of American atheletes, focus most of that talent into soccer, forget about it. Thanks.

and you sort of contradict yourself by admitting that we cant know how good other countries are at american sports, but you do know that when the roles are reversed america would dominate. doesnt seem logical at all. and considering countries that have football as their main sport still produce league dominating players in the NBA, kinda shows that europeans can be just as good at basketball as the yanks while coming from a country where the game, at best, comes second. same for baseball and hockey.
even starting at grass roots, investing billions, making the MLS an acceptable league, it would take generations for the US to become a respected international team, let alone a dominating one.

Apart from the couple of times they had us in with the girls doing “dance” (fuck you, teachers), the PE lessons in which we played basketball were always my least favourite.
