I’ve always loved the George Harrison cover. Hot take: there's not a single Dylan cover than I prefer to the original. His voice might be my favourite, ever. I would have agreed with that for a long time and then I heard Fairport Convention’s - I’ll Keep it With Mine. Ok it s not totally fair as it seems clear that Dylan never got it down to his satisfaction but it’s very good nonetheless. The brilliant Sandy Denny at her best.

Took me a while to find this thread Much as I love Oasis and the Gallaghers, Bob is my main man (although Paul Weller and The Jam was where it all started for me) ... and I have a ton of stuff on hard discs scattered around my apartment .. not to mention a silly amount of bootleg CDs. For any other big Bob fans here, who may not be aware, there is a great site called www.expectingrain.com which contains a goldmine of unreleased material. Feel free to hit me up in my messages if there is anything you are interested to hear (no, I don't have Salt Lake City 1976)

An alternative version of Not Dark Yet!
(That isn't as good as the released version, but still, cool to hear).

This is a classic Bootleg Series release. It will never replace the original in my heart, but it's a fantastic version that we are so lucky to be able to hear.

Visions of Johanna (Take 5) is better than the released version. Fight me.

The first one people usually mention is Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower and it is very good but it loses the feeling of the original, the haunting, spooky atmosphere.

New remix/anthology for "Time Out of Mind" is out!
Halfway through the first track, and I think that I prefer this mix already.
We know Noel is a fan...
I wonder what he'll think of this idea of remixing an over-produced seventy-minute album from 1997.

Agree - it's a great new mix. Not sure I prefer it, but it's got a crisper feel. Outtakes disc 1 is my favourite disc so far. Brilliant stuff and incredible how he has always left so much great things behind.

Listening on a bit, I do think some of the ghostly atmosphere of the album has been sacrificed.

I love how both Bob Dylan and Gem Archer had songs used in Victoria Secrets commercials.

I think Cold Irons Bound, Make You Feel My Love, and Dirt Road Blues are all improved by the remix. Perhaps Love Sick and Highlands too, I'm undecided on those. The rest suit the original, soup-of-mist production more. Not Dark Yet in particular sounds sterile and flat without the Lanois swamp-heat steaming from it.

I think this is the mixed Time of Out Mind I'll have as a playlist:
1. Love Sick ('22) 2. Dreamin' of You (Tell Tale Signs Version) 3. Trying to Get to Heaven ('97) 4. Standing in the Doorway ('97) 5. Till I Fell in Love With You ('22) 6. Dirt Road Blues ('22) 7. Not Dark Yet ('97) 8. To Make You Feel My Love ('22) 9. Cold Irons Bound ('22) 10. Can't Wait ('97) 11. Highlands ('22)
Gaining a lot of love for this album through this deeper dive. An emotive, atmospheric, unified record. And stacked with tunes.
"Trying to Get to Heaven" has hit me like a train today, the original mix. Something about the way Bob delivers lines which on paper are barely even coherent (I was ridin' on a buggy with Miss Mary Jane / Miss Mary Jane got a house in Baltimore) as if they're the most emotional confession he could possibly make really affects me. He's one of the best singers ever, of course.

Currently I'm trying to listen to every Dylan album. As of now I've heard everything up to Empire Burlesque (though I already skipped the three Gospel albums). I'm not sure if I'll make it to the end tbh. Things are getting quite boring in the 80s

Especially if you add "Series of Dreams", "Born in Time", and "Dignity". Three of the best tracks of that era and he left them off, typical Noel. Dylan, I mean. I do think there's some stuff worth hearing in the Christian albums, too. Every Grain of Sand, Gotta Serve Somebody, Shot of Love, uuhhh.. Well, okay, there's not much. But Slow Train Coming is a solid record and even outtakes from the other two like Angelina aren't bad.

I like Solid Rock and Saved as well. Heart of Mine outtake with Ronnie Wood is ace as well. Infidels is a return to form of sorts even though he mutilated the album with what he left off. Letterman performance is magic.

Everyone talks about Infidels as the album that could have been so much better with improved track list choices by Bob. For me though, Shot of Love is the real one that got away. He was on absolute fire in 1980-1981, with the strict fundamentalism out of his system.
Caribbean Wind, Angelina, Groom Still Waiting At The Altar, Need A Woman, Yonder Comes Sin. My playlist version of that album absolutely smokes.

This never gets enough attention. The album may be patchy but Changing of the Guards, Senor and this are up there with his best.

Allegedly no more than a second take recording and perhaps a first take. To support the latter you can hear the drummer wrestling with the song throughout and Emmylou Harris struggling with Dylan's phrasing but its vital, alive. A few people in a room working off each other. I haven't even mentioned how good it is lyrically.

This thread has put me back in full Bob Dylan mode! Some highlights from MTV Unplugged. A riotous Everything Is Broken not included on the official release. Dylan changing it up doesn't always work for me but this is a great version. Apparently there had been some wrangling over the setlist, with Bob essentially wanting to go out there and perform a set of folk standards. He didn't but did include a song that had never been officially released on one of his albums.
