I don't know how credible this is, and Gordon Smart seems like a narcissistic opportunist, but here it is:

Liam Gallagher WILL play Glastonbury despite vowing never to go back By GORDON SMART, Showbiz Editor Published: 1 hr ago LIAM GALLAGHER has done his second U-turn in a month. He poured p*** on talent shows then appeared on The Voice. Now he is heading for Glastonbury this weekend with BEADY EYE. Liam and the band will play a surprise gig at the festival on Somerset’s Worthy Farm — after he vowed never to go back. I know what day and stage their midday set will be on but am NOT giving away the secret. OASIS headlined at Glasto in 2004 but the event really wound up the frontman NOEL once described as “the man with a fork in a world of soup”. Liam later said: “The sound is s*** and really quiet. You can hear the crowd talking while you’re playing. They don’t put any money into the PA and it’s just full of f***ing idiots. “Now it’s like Bond Street with mud, with loads of celebrities walking around in their boots and umbrellas. “I’m not having it.” Ted had emergency surgery two weeks ago to remove a blood clot on his brain. It was touch and go and the group had to cancel gigs this month after learning the news. But now keyboard player BEN LOVETT says his bandmate has recovered and is “going to be OK”. He added: “We’re going to get back out on that stage at Glastonbury as four brothers and do what we do.” The band get stick but are a good choice to headline Glasto — with the sun hopefully promising a scorcher of a weekend. That’s unless you listen to Liam’s description of Mumford & Sons. He said: “Everyone looks like they’ve got f***ing nits and look like they eat lentil soup with their sleeves rolled up.” If he gets enough pear cider down his neck, they’ll be his favourite band by Monday.

Well, Gordon Smart isn't just posting a rumor here it appears. He's saying that he truly has inside information.
So there could be some truth to it.

I hope so. Festivals did well for BDI last time around. They should play as many as they can this summer.

I do think it would be good publicity for BE. Festivals are a good way to reach a more general audience than at specific BE concerts, and Glastonbury is a huge festival with a big line-up. I think it would've been better if they had just been included in the line-up to begin with, but maybe this "surprise gig" will create more buzz. I guess we'll see if Gordon Smart knows what he's talking about.

I read this on twitter yesterday but wasnt sure if it was true. People were saying it on the Friday at 11am. I think that the sun newspaper story kind of confirms it.

Wonder why they weren't initially announced? No space on the stacked line-up? Didn't know if the album would be ready in time? Certainly not the same as Radiohead or Pulp when they were secret bands.

The line up is incredible?? The Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys, Primal Scream, Jake Bugg, Johnny Marr, Pil etc etc. I would have loved to go.

Knew you'd love that one. So the party line will be Liam bluffed his way into a bigger pay day or something? Liam is much like Noel. There's always been this b.s. on here of Liam speaking from the heart and Noel from the mind. Both have to be taken with a grain of salt and are prone to lying or flubbing details. Simple as. Both are toward the same ends and how they get there is no matter, whether it's the "heart" or the "mind". Neither is better.
