/\ Seriously! Will that decision ever be overturned? It's not a decision. Pete Rose put himself on baseball’s ineligible list after he cut a deal with Major League Baseball and commissioner Bart Giamatti. The deal was if Pete Rose kept silent about his gamblings on major league baseball games, he could be reinstated after one year. Well, Pete did not keep silent and blabbed about it nonstop to the press and media. This did not sit well with Major League Baseball. Since he put himself on that ineligible list, MLB sees no cause to take him off after he admitted to breaking baseball's golden rule of no gambling. Pete made his bed, now he lies in it...forever.

/\ Seriously! Will that decision ever be overturned? Everything Lennon2217 said is spot on , rose ever figured on giammitti dying a year later either and his friend Faye Vincent rightfully carried out giammitti s deal . I love rose and anyone who saw him play knows he's a hall of famer , but it's the one rule you can't break ...shoeless joe never got in , and neither will Pete Only way I ever see Lennon and I being wrong is if the next wave of veterans come in and view steroids as the ultimate evil, and buck the system and vote Pete in because they were fans ...but I doubt it ....shame really he was a one of a kind player ..second base , lf, 3 b , first base , lead off , ultimate teammate , hall of famer to me , it unlike football where Paul horning got in even though he was involved in a betting scandal , you bet baseball you banned Edit : even if next wave of vets voted him in , it wouldn't be recognized by commissioner or baseball , so it's a moot point til reinstatement if that happens , what's your take ? I know he belongs for on field , and don't really care about betting on own team , even though its wrong

Braves sweep the Cardinals this weekend. Hmm.... so much for 'they can't be good teams' theory. Minor, Teheran, and Medlen owned St. Louis over the past 3 days. And I love the new line-up approach with Heyward leading off. Not very traditional but oh so sweet. 8.5 up in the East. Nice.

RIP THURMAN MUNSON always THE CAPTAIN .... was playing stickball outside my house when I found out , only cried twice over celebrities dying young Lennon and the captain .

Over reaching? Whatever MLB showed Ryan Braun they had on him shook him to his core to take the 65 game suspension. That dude would do anything to proclaim his innocence. Him taking the deal speaks volumes. The have even more dirt on A-Rod. A-Rod bought PEDs, recruited others and then tried to buy off Boesch. A-ROID's press conference the other night from Trenton was a complete joke. Especially the part when he said he wants to clean up the game from PED use. LOOK IN THE MIRROR YOU ASSHOLE.

Is buying PEDS against the law? Has he tested positive for them? Once? MLB is a joke. They knew players took steriods for yrs and didnt care. Only after the negative press from the congress hearings did they start to crack down on PEDS. Baseball was dying until Mcgwire and Sosa came along. The self righteousness about it all is the part that bothers me.

The self righteousness about it all is the part that bothers me. Even if they wanted to go after those guys in the late 90s it wasn't in their collective bargaining agreement. When that expired, they added it into the system. This was around 2002-2004. They had to hash out all those issues with the players union. Now it's in there, mostly because the majority of players want themselves to be known as "clean" athletes. Baseball actually keeps breaking attendance records across the land every year despite the decline in the home run. That is a good thing in my opinion.

Number is a little skewed though cause MIA attendance is down almost 600k. But the Marlins were plus 700k last yr vs 2011. Chicks dig the long ball and so do I.

Just wait until hardcore testing for HGH and other PED use enters the NFL. Combine that with all the new injury rules and we are headed to a flag football league by 2025.

Could you imagine if football records were thought of like baseball records? When AP breaks the single season rushing record (he's gonna get it this year) will people be saying it doesnt count because hes on HGH?

When AP breaks the single season rushing record (he's gonna get it this year) will people be saying it doesnt count because hes on HGH? Agreed ... People need to forget the past and what was taken , ap I'm sure dabbles like all in hgh ... I think the point with a rod is this ..he got caught the rules are there whether they are dumb or not , and he did it again , I'm a Yankee fan but if he tried to recruit he deserves what he gets , Me i was a pitcher so I enjoy 1-0 2-1 more than slugfests. But you are right baseball is hypocritical they knew juice was in game and urned a blind eye to save game But let me give you a analogy as to why he deserves ban . Sammy " the bull" gravano got only a few years for ratting out the mob in NYC John gotti in particular . He knew after that he had to go straight...he could not and got busted for dealing extasy with his wife and kids in Arizona and had to go to jail anyway . Same with arod. If he used or recruited after baseball basically admitted they were wrong to turn a blind eye and implement these policies and he got caught breaking the rule AGAIN . , be it recruiting which is banneable or otherwise , just like the bull he gotta serve time , and his admission of previous sins don't matter

I think it is extremely impressive Major League Baseball was able to accomplish all of this without subpoena power. I commend them for that. Sure, MLB was late to the party on banning PED use but they are swinging a mean hammer now. Knives out on Monday Bud.

Yep , I like low scoring cause I pitched , I agree with Sternumman that baseball had a good idea what was happening but they turned a blind eye. ...but A rod ain't gonna win a appeal they got him dead to rights on the recruiting if not the ped sorta the way the government got Capone ( sorry for mafia references but they apply ) they couldn't get al on aquteering so they got him on tax evasion .., same here they got something that yes hell fight , but he won't win. Whether u agree or not . He's FUCKED ...

kalas Lennon2217 Maybe I'm just naive but I think an arbiter will side with AROD on the account of him not testing positive. I still dont see how recruiting players, if thats what they are trying to stick on him, is against any laws. To take 30+ million dollars away from the guy they are gonna have to prove to an independent observer that the punishment fits the "crime" On a side note kalas have you been to Marlins Park? Think its the perfect size for that team. Would love to see an open air concert there.

I have been when I was in Fort Lauderdale my buddy has season tix , one of the very few lol then again he had season tickets to the devils , back in the 80 s when they were the joke of the NHL ... It is a great size for them and a open air concert there would be great , the atmosphere , and though we don't know cause there is no noise there sadly l I think the acoustics would be great .. I don't think your being naive ..but I do think this .... It's gotten personal with selig , he has taken along time for this decision to come down , I think he's confidant he is holding the aces . I may be wrong , it will be worth the price of admission starting toomorow though

Another way of getting caught is when a disgruntled employee sells off incriminating documents to a Miami Newspaper and Major League Baseball. These people are sometimes called whistlerblowers. It's not a witch hunt if the witches are real! Remember that.
