Talking of Line Of Duty I read in today's paper that the next series could be the final as the writer of the series is tying up all the loose ends in season 6 (which they're filming now). This is what Adrian Dunbar says, although he did say that they might do another series after that. I hope it's not the end as it would be a shame if it is.

I liked it but I get why horror fans would prefer HH. I'm not a fan of scary shows, I prefer family dramas and that sort of stories, that's what draw me into HH at first. I couldn't sleep for weeks after it

John Bishop's Great Whale Rescue on ITV. It's about the release of two beluga whales held in captivity at a marine park in China and they rescue them to a Sanctuary in Iceland. The final part is on tonight. I know what happens though as I've been following it all along due to my donations at Whale and Dolphin Conservation who are fighting to end all whales and dolphins in captivity. The fact is they belong in the wild and not at these cruel marine parks which are like a prison to them.

Michael Palin's Around The World In 80 Days. Remember watching this as a kid one Christmas and it still holds up as probably the best travel series ever. Palin is such great company.

It wasn't as scary as HH (couldn't sleep that well after it either), but the last 2 episodes were very strong and I cried a little bit at the end lol. I had a free afternoon so I decided to start something new. Initually I wanted to watch a comedy. But then I see Emily in Paris and I've read some horrible reviews about it. So what do I do? Do I go for a good quality show? Of course not, and so I find myself at episode 4 of Emily in Paris.

I've been watching Schitt's Creek. It's a good watch, even though it's far from the greatest sitcom I've ever seen.

I watched Spitting Image election special on ITV last night and it's still funny after all these years. The Donald Trump and Boris Johnson puppets are brilliant. I love Spitting Image and I always used to watch it back in the day. However I'm not going to sign up to BritBox just to watch it now though.

The Shining (dir. Stanley Kubrick, 1980)
Never felt scared--and I'm a wuss--but I did enjoy the strangeness of it, the imagery, some of the score (some of it was a little too overwrought for my liking), and of course Nicholson's performace. Overall I'd say Stephen King's assessment of it as being like a beautiful car with no engine is fair.
What got to me the most was reading about Kubrick's mistreatment of Shelley Duvall. Hopefully the whole "auteur" thing has been put to bed now, and fat blokes behind cameras will no longer be allowed to treat actors (or anyone else for that matter) like shit simply because they're an "artist" with a "vision."

Yeah it's not remotely scary. Like yourself, I enjoyed the strangeness but it's not particularly a Kubrick film I'd come back to. The Shelley Duvall treatment is pretty appalling though, no way that any director today would get away with such treatment simply for art sake (it would be all over the media these days).
