I actually really do like Soldier On. Whenever some members speak about the second half of DOYS being throwaway, I always think, "What about Soldier On?". I've liked the song since I first heard DOYS.
I think it's one of Liam's best. The lyrics are okay, basically Noel phrases splashed about through out the song, but what I love about the song is the overall groove and mood.
It's become a very apropos song considering that it was final song on the final album by Oasis. I think has made for a nice final period on the Oasis studio material, much like Falling Down has the same apropos effect when it comes to that being the last single.
Very underrated song, nonetheless.

Works great as an album closer IMO but its poor on its own or in the middle of a playlist.

I wouldn't say it is one of Liam's best but it is pretty good, a lot better than it should be considering the lyrics. I love the echo added to Liam's vocals and the guitar sounds very different from your usual oasis song which I like on that and the rest of that album. That's what I like about DOYS it was oasis taking a different direction. Liams voice was great and a bit different eg the verses for bag it up and the turning were quite psychedelic along with different guitar noises and awesome drumming on the turning and falling down. I got into oasis just before it came out but all I'd heard was the radio-friendly WTSMG, hearing this blew my head off because it was so different. I prefer soldier on to a lot of beady eye stuff even though I know the beady eye stuff is better, Noel Gallagher's production ideas make average songs into great songs. Soldier On is pretty good in oasis but it would never work as a BDI song IMO

I always liked this song, the first time I heard it I thought that it was so different from other Liam's contribution to the band and even Oasis carrer, it blew my mind, it is also the last song on their last album, and the lyrics made a lot of sense when the band broke up, a sense of farewell and to move on.

One of the best songs on the album, in my opinion.

I really like it. Love Liam's vocals and the overall groove and beat to the song. Like others have said, it is a fitting end to DOYS.

I prefer soldier on to a lot of beady eye stuff even though I know the beady eye stuff is better, Noel Gallagher's production ideas make average songs into great songs. Soldier On is pretty good in oasis but it would never work as a BDI song IMO Noel has always downplayed how much influence he had on LAG's songs while they were in Oasis, but for me it was always hard to listen to their tracks and not hear Noel's influences. There was just that magic touch in the Oasis sound that elevated songs pasts what they were suppose to be. Also, I really don't like to make the arguments of what if this person had been on this album or what if this person had been on a particular song, but there are some songs on DGSS that might have been better if done under the Oasis banner. I think some of DGSS's material lent very well to Lillywhite's production and Lillywhite did a solid job, but I feel that songs like SOTEOTN a couple of others would have been so much better if it had been done under the Oasis banner.

Yeah I really like Soldier On aswell, very psychedelic and awesome sound effects on the track aswell. It's a great closer but unfortunately, the damage had been done with three atrocious tracks beforehand (Where There's Life, Ain't Got Nothin, Nature of Reality).

Have to say, I do like the strong bass line in it. And it's very fitting, and somewhat haunting, being the last song on their last album prior to the breakup.

I appreciate the groove it creates, but the song as a whole is weak imo. I'd rather listen to Columbia's monotonous loop over Soldier On any day. Again, DOYS suffered from a lack of finished tunes to choose from because Liam wasn't feeling it apparently.
The song isn't near terrible though.

When is a song finished? When it meets your criteria?

When is a song finished? When it meets your criteria? "They're never finished. They're either wrong or right." -Noel Gallagher

I like it a lot and it is one of my favorites on the album, but I like The Morning Son better. TMS is what I wanted Soldier On to be. TMS gets really epic, whereas with SO I was waiting for it to happen and it didn't really to its fullest.

Great drum and bass, that makes it for me. I bet they're both Noel too.

If I had it my way, I'd rather 'Boy With The Blues' being the album closer. Would have been a nice sing along finale. What a waste of a track being on the bonus CD. It deserved a higher profile. Oh well.

When is a song finished? When it meets your criteria? What kind of a troll comment is that? I don't have a criteria, but . . . I was making reference to the DOYS docu in which they said they came across the track because another band had heard the late-night piss take in the studio after they were there. Clearly the band didn't really consider it a great song, or they would have kept closer tabs on it. That's all.

Great album closer but it would have needed an epic track just before. I suppose Record Machine was that song...

I agree that TMS is better but soldier on is very fitting as the last oasis song, it represents a different sounding oasis to the DM, WTSMG era that most people know showing the band have changed with time, it acts like a solemn goodbye to something and a message to try and soldier on without oasis. Then four letter word is the first song from BDI and a sneery rock song announcing that nothing ever lasts forever and as a firm "im back" statement. The morning son completes the first Gallagher album since oasis by saying you go your way and I'll go mine for the future of oasis and saying that now they've "rose" again from the oasis ashes... I realise I've just over analysed it all so I'll stop now before I morph into a gdforever post... ...btw that isn't me calling out gdforever for an argument so don't feel the need to reply to that comment GD if your reading this... To cut a long story short... I like soldier on
