Me and a friend will be coming down there too. We don't know any of the bars but we'll definitely be looking to go out beforehand.

there is a cool bar called the char bar that i have been to before when my band has played columbus and also when i went to see my morning jacket at the same venue. cool place, good jukebox. great staff as well. i would assume it is a good pre concert spot for even the casual fan that may be going. before mmj, my friend and i met a good handful of people that we hung out with at the show.
enjoy, i can't wait to go see Noel in Detroit on Saturday.

Yeah a friend of mine from the area said to go North on High St (two blocks east of venue) and there's a strip of bars about a 10 min walk away. Not sure about the scene though.

A few recollections from the show...
There was a loud group of guys about four rows deep that Noel really seemed to enjoy. They chanted "NOOOOEEEELLLLL" in between songs until he said, "How long did it take you to think of that? There really is nothing to do in this fucking town!" Then after the next song they chanted "CHIEF." Then after Noel had introduced the band including Ben, the keyboardist, Noel had everyone chant Ben's name because he hates that apparently.
One song after chanting "CHIEF," the guys started chanting "BEN! BEN! BEN!" It was hilarious.
Someone was thanking Noel for coming, and his response was, "Don't thank me -- go buy a fucking T-shirt."
Noel was in a pretty good mood, joking with the crowd and generally seeming to have fun. Great atmosphere all around.

Here's a little bit about our trip to Columbus. My friend Drew and I took the four trip from Cleveland down there. Get to the hotel, blah, blah, blah. We head to the little farmer's market called North Market. After we ate we decided to go walk by the venue so we could check it out before the show. As we're walking down the street, I notice Scully and Phil walking around the corner so I yelled out to them. We chatted for a bit and we made plans to meet up before the show so he could interview us about how we feel about Noel and his music. Between now and the show just involves a whole lot of drinking and eating, relatively uneventful. We get to the show about 6:45 and there's a line down the street. We wound up in the back and just waited. By the time we got to the front Scully was walking out with the camera. I yelled out to him and we began chatting again and we did the bit for Noel. I told him how my girlfriend left me because I went to this show and he thought that was great. He's a fucking real cool guy. Very nice and very down to Earth. One of the coolest people I've ever met. So we head inside and get to our seats in the pit. We get one of the most massive beers I've ever seen in my life and then Mona came on. And...I gotta say they weren't anything special. I definitely wouldn't expect them opening a gig for Noel. Everyone sat down the whole opening act and people cheered for Noel throughout their set. The singer laughed about that for a second. They ended their set after a half hour and we all waited for Noel to come on. As soon as we all heard "Shoot A Hole Into The Sun" everyone started getting excited and yelling. Noel came on about 9. It was truly mad in their when he walked out. Everyone stood up and started cheering. He played the typical set list and after about two songs me and left our seats in the fifth row and just went up to the barricade. Walking through the isle I knocked a beer all over this girls feet. Sorry. But you shouldn't have fucking worn open toed heels or whatever to a fucking rock 'n' roll concert. We got up front with everyone and everyone was singing all of the songs, except the 4 or 5 guys directly in front of me and closest to the stage. A bit odd you'd make sure you were as close as possible, but not be into it...a bit weird. Anyway, like acquiesce19 said, Noel was in a pretty good mood. Joking with the crowd about how boring the city was and to go and buy a T-Shirt. It was good fun. The atmosphere at the gig was truly incredible. Just hearing a whole building singing those songs. Don't Look Back In Anger and Little By Little were amazing. Noel sounded great and so did the band. Tim's guitar was turned down a little too low, and the drummer kept missing the sticks when he threw them into the air which was kinda funny. The show was over and me and my friend were waiting there after the show to try to get a souvenir. We tried getting picks, set lists, even the godlike genius award. One asshole guy told us no after we asked for a set list, but finally there was a decent guy and he gave us the set list. After the show a bunch of us went over to wait for Noel outside. It was fucking freezing outside. We stood there talking to people, smoking cigarettes and we lit up a joint and shared it with these girls. After what seemed like an eternity he finally came out. He didn't really talk to us much. And he didn't pose for pictures. If you wanted a picture you had to just stand next to him while he was signing other people's stuff. That was kinda disappointing. But he did sign my set list and a couple other peoples' things. Some guy had like a guitar, a shirt, all this shit to have him sign which was kinda ridiculous. He took up most of the time and probably prevented other people from getting things signed. And then at the end as Noel walked away, some girl called out to Noel all sad like because he didn't sign anything for her. He just looked back and then walked back in the building. I feel sorry for her, but you can't blame him. He'd be out there for awhile if he didn't go in at some point. But I do wish he stayed out there a bit longer, especially since we all waited so long. After this we took the long walk back to the hotel in the freezing cold. I'm uploading some pictures and part of a video of (Stranded On) The Wrong Beach. The video ends at the guitar solo because my phone ran out of memory. Fucking terrible timing. So I'll link to those once they're done uploading. I was also tweeting throughout the day so you can read any Noel related tweets twitter.com/AlexPayne821If I remember anything else I'll post it. Nice one. How long did you end up waiting after the show? Noel usually leaves immediately from what I know. Did they open the gates in the back because it was completely closed off when I left. Congrats on getting your setlist signed!! Amazing.

I don't exactly remember how long we waited, but we left around 11:30 or so. So however long that was after the gig. It seemed like forever. And they didn't open the gates. People kept coming out, but they wouldn't let us back there. And thank you! I'm glad I waited for it. It was worth the wait. What a great show.

Thanks for the recounts of the show. I love the bit about the girl with the open toed shoes Alex. I've worn them a few times in the summer to shows, but its part of the experience if you leave smelling like beer - you know you had a good time.

My advice is go early, wait out front. That's where he was in DC, around 5ish. I waited about an hour after the show out back by the loading docks (this involved walking around the place to find out where they were at), and Noel came out to sign autographs before he got on his tour bus. Good luck!!
