Just came here to say that the strings version of Secret Garden is truly something beautiful. God, I'd give anything to see him live do whatever you have to do to see him live. even if you're not a fan, every true rock 'n' roll fan owes it to themselves to see this guy live at least once.

I like Magic and Wrecking Ball, both albums got me into Springsteen beyond the greatest hits. My Hometown is my favourite Bruce song. Neil Young's cover of My Hometown is pretty special too. i LOVE wrecking ball. it's not for everyone i know, but for me right up there with any of them. not a bad effort at all for a guy well into his 60's dammit. He came in like a wrecking ball...

I'm a huge fan, he's one of my favourite artists of all time. I love his music, and respect him as a person massively. The problem is that he avoids my country like a plague - so I guess when he comes to Italy the next time, I'll have to travel there. Has anyone read any books? I've heard lots of good things about "Two Hearts", but I don't have it. I do have "Springsteen on Springsteen", it's a collection of interviews, I've been flicking through it from time to time.

^the 12" 'blaster' mix. also there was a 12" mix for born in the u.s.a. as well ('the freedom mix') that has a piano intro. a local top 40 station here in boston used to play them both back in the day i know i'm in the minority but i put wrecking ball up there with any of his best albums. love it. he's what, 64 now? sure a lot of artists his age can do the greatest hits shows and tours (ray, macca, stones, neil young, etc. etc.), but not too many can stay musically relevant like the boss has over the years. That Freedom mix is ridiculous. Wrecking Ball doesn't hold up for me. There are some good tracks on it. I still like This Depression, Death to my Hometown, LOH&D, and the title track but the rest of the album doesn't do much for me. There is too much of Suzies violin on it. Easy Money and Shackled and Drawn are too country. The rap on Rocky Ground is silly and out of place. It's a better album than Working on a Dream and High Hopes though. so here is how i rate the songs on wrecking ball: excellent (2) - (wrecking ball, land of hope and dreams) very good (4) - (we take care of our own, easy money, jack of all trades, death to my hometown) good (3) - (this depression, rocky ground, we are alive) fair (1) - shackled and drawn (*although the live version is so much better) poor (1) - you've got it (filler, doesn't fit the album's theme/concept at all, sounds so out of place, should have been a b-side) and it just dawned on me today, how much rocky ground sounds like 'one step up'.

God, I'd give anything to see him live Seriously the best live performer by a mile, you should do anything to try and see him. I don't think there's any worry of him slowing down any time soon, he's fit as a fiddle and when I saw him when he was 63, he had more enthusiasm, energy and stamina than pop stars in their twenties for a show that lasted three and a half hours.

I'm pretty excited for this new box set, having owned The Ties That Bind on bootleg for a while now. However the one thing that I've never liked about Springsteen's archival releases is his tendency to re-record/introduce elements into the songs. Why can't he just leave them the way he recorded them in 1979? Some of them were probably unfinished, but what if The Beatles had re-recorded all of their parts on the Anthology issues? Granted, he's free to do whatever he likes with his songs, but I bet there wasn't anything really "wrong" with the original recordings. But what am I complaining for? We're getting 11 unheard tunes, even if they aren't the same as when Bruce initially recorded them.

This is one of the better originals and it's not great. I agree though, it would be nice to have the originals. They are really obvious on the Promise album. His voice on record now doesn't have the rawness it had in the 70's The ones he recorded on the Tracks boxset aren't as noticeable

poor (1) - you've got it (filler, doesn't fit the album's theme/concept at all, sounds so out of place, should have been a b-side) I've always thought so too. Objectively, its decent, harmless enough. But one the album it hits you as being "why is this here?" and Rocky Ground following it continues that mild confusion.
