Maybe we should all take a deep breath and burn a few copies of UNCUT to relax a bit. some people need to burn something else to relax a bit. With that being said reviews are reviews. The beautiful thing about music is there are no rules and everything and everybody is different. Whether you like it or not is the most important thing but with that being said even if all the other songs are average I'm saying with the three songs we have right now we are at least looking at a 3/5 in my books. I do also get the vibe that this guy was expecting a more rock n roll approach to Noel's solo stuff which in my opinion is a bit unreasonable because A) he isn't really a rock n roll singer and B) he has moved away from that style of writing over the years. I love rock n roll and Noel i'm sure does too but lets be honest you can't rock n roll at age 44 and still look as cool as you did in your 20's. It's a natural progression to see Noel be transformed from one of the greatest songwriters in rock n roll towards a more singer/songwriter performer and artist.

Criteria for a crap review for Noel Gallagher:
Note Beatles comparison: Check Note Beady Eye comparison: Check No worthwhile opinion on the album as a whole: Check
I wouldn't mind so much the review if it was detailed but it's a tired old cliche of a review regarding any Oasis members project. Nothing of note to insight the reader.
I thought the guy's Dig Out Your Soul review was very good though.

Oh and spaneli is one of the great posters of this site. The amount of fools this board has attracted over the last few months has been ridiculous. Constantly nit picking and feel the need to bash other members.

Jesus. what is it, bash Spaneli day? chill out, people. and avoid the insults. Two people rightly tell a poster to calm down for being very precious and unnecessarily aggressive and you defend the poster that told someone to fuck off after they asked him a valid question? Wouldn't happen to have anything to do with Spanelli's position on this forum and the cliques that we all know exist between senior posters and mods? Why do all your posts feature either anger, paranoia or both? Keep it up, it amuses me to no end

I think it's worth noting that by comparing the Uncut review to the Q review what they liked was different things.
Uncut thought What a Life was the highlight while Q thought it was the downfall.
While I think What a Life is a good song, the other songs we've heard on the record are a few notches above in my opinion.

I don't like any of the new songs so far really. I think the first single is probably the best, but it doesn't really do anything for me. WAL is a car advert song, I can't really think of a time when I'd feel like listening to it. If I Had A Gun is crap. Sounds like a 2005 B Side, and the production is fucking terrible.
I'll wait and see what the other songs sound like, but 3/10 being poor (and also being the lead songs), is not a good sign.

The only Noel song I've liked is AKA..WAL but that doesn't mean I believe this guy's review. If you've heard the album then you're entitled to have an opinion on it, if you haven't then don't worry about anyone else's until you hear it for yourself.

While I understand this critic's beef with Noel's midtempo, Kinks-esque obsession at the mo this is no 2-star album. It's been said, but he surely doesn't like latter-day Noel. It's certainly not short of BDI on the songs -- pure craftsmanship -- alone.

We already now the album contains several fantastic songs. And both Mojo and Q gave it 4 stars and all the other comments we have heard (Time, RS, NME,...) are positive, so very probably the rest of the album will not be shit either. As Noel said: "if you like what i do there is plenty here for you to like, if you don't like what i do, there is plenty for you to hate". I think it is pretty clear where the Uncut reviewer is.

Noel will always have to carry that weight of "he will write a classic"... so the expectation will always be a lot, the world will alwats demand from him a classic album. So he has to live up to that fact...
