if you say so... whatever I've been a fan from both bands from around the same time (almost 10 years) and I've never related one another. I think they came from different music scenes and i really don't care if one copies another. I love the beatles too and I never cared much about noel's "references" in their songs.

how is "I'm older than I wish to be this town holds no more for me" identical to "Summer has come and past, The innocent can never last, Wake me up when September ends, Like my fathers come to pass, Seven years has gone so fast, Wake me up when September ends"

I'm 22 and I always thought that the word "lyric" referes to the words of a song not the tone

personally i have played rockin' chair on guitar a hundred times and i can't see the connection at all im not having a go but to say it has the same tone hmmmm rockin' chair probely has the same tone and same type couple of lines as a million other not as well known tracks out there, i like rockin' chair so i downloaded greendays track and i can't hear what your on about , now with broken dreams it's there and is wonderwall inspired for sure, but i like that track to and they nicked the chords and done something else with it but if you can play guitar 'rockin' chair isnt in the same key as when sep........etc

The word 'lyrics' doesn't have anything to do with melody.

The word 'lyrics' doesn't have anything to do with melody. The fact that it's 12 years old doesn't make it any less true. The OP was clearly referring to the melody, albeit clumsily.

The beginning does sound like Rockin' Chair until "never last". This is at this exact moment you understand shit is happening. Then comes the next line with horrendous vocals and you give up. Yes, Green Day are total shit.

Oasis releases the US single 'Wonderwall' with bside 'Rockin' Chair' in the mid 90s
Ten years later Green Day release 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' and 'Wake Me Up When September Ends'
Hardly takes a genius to work out what happened there
