Despite the fact that Rolling Stone either neglects the Gallaghers or views them as a joke, Noel and "The Death of You and Me" got the #1 spot on the Hot List in the latest issue of the magazine. The Hot List is a top five of new singles, releases, performances, etc. that they recommend their readers check out. Here's what they had to say:
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, "The Death of You and Me" "We know, you haven't thought about Oasis since the dry-humping-to-"Wonderwall" incident of '95. Nonetheless! Noel's first solo jam is a powerful dose of more Brit than Brit-pop melodicism, with a sweet bonus of New Orleans-jazz horns. (Rumored alternate title? "Top This, Liam, You Ugly Fucking Wanker.")
Aside from the typical attitudes toward Oasis, it actually seems like Rolling Stone is taking notice of what Noel is doing and had positive comments here about the song itself.

Noel topping Jay-Z and Kanye in a magazine like RS?
Now I've seen it all.

I'm pretty sure there is already a thread on this a few weeks ago.

I posted this like 2 weeks ago. But, yeah, it was kind of shocking.

Pity the promo is being wasted on a tune that isn't gonna be a single in the US. Doubt RS are going to give as much prominence to the US single.
But maybe I am just being cynical.
