Both had new songs out this week. I enjoy Noel's new one, but I much prefer the new Chili Peppers single.
Anyone else with me?

I actually thought the RHCP song was kind of weak, compared to their last output, Stadium Arcadium which was filled with amazing songs from top to bottom. And I love TDOYAM more after every listen.

RHCP have been going down hill since By the Way and to me they never were that great of a band even in their prime. New single is total shit.

fuck yeah!!!!!! i don't really follow the RHCP's anymore. i love John Frusciante, their old guitarist but i liked him on the older albums, not the newer ones. 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik' and 'Mother's Milk' are two of my favorite albums ever. good things.

But you can compare shit with Eau de Cologne and then realize that shit smells somehow shitty. No big deal, really.

The RHCP are just one of those bands that I really, truly, have a strong dislike for. I didn't like them when they were huge in the early/mid 90s and I still pretty much can't stand them.

The peppers new single and album will be funkalicious but predictable and nothing to ring the town bell about. Although I was resistant towards the overtly-radio friendly Stadium Arcadium, you can't deny Frusciante's keen ear and talent for songwriting. Without him, the band will no longer be unique, they will just be another so-so pop funk band. I think that the Chili's vibe and sound is a little dated now, especially without the songwriting prowess of Frusciante. His guitar solo on 'I Could Have Lied' still makes me numb everytime.
Having said that, they will still be more popular than Noel. But Noel's new album will be more insteresting and satisying I should think.

Stadium Arcadium (radio-friendly or not) was a fucking great album. It could/should have a been a lot stronger had they released just one disc - the best 14-16 songs from the 28. There are too many filler. 'If' on Stadium Arcadium freaked me out for instance. That was NOT the Chili Peppers I orignally came to be a fan of. It was shocking.

This. They're all talented, they just make pretty rubbish music. i guess it's music you either like or dislike.,. Flea's one of the best bassist's ever, and i love John Frusciante's early RHCP guitar work. I'm not gonna deny their excellent musicianship. But like you said, it's whatever floats your boat. I am more into melodic songwriting, structure, overall flow, than I am how talented a band or artist is, i.e. Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen are regarded as two of the greatest guitar players ever. I love Hendrix' music to death - I fucking despise Van Halen.

Jimi Hendrix is great. And actually the RHCP's musical style is derivative of Jimi Hendrix's music, and they cover several Hendrix songs, i.e. 'Crosstown Traffic', 'Castles Made of Sand', 'Fire' and i think some others as well. good things.
