This may be skewed to the newness of the song, but since both have similar styles thought this would be good poll. I still have a page full of threads to catch up on, too.

TIOBI but only because it is, literally, my favourite ever song. I love it, but I also love TDOYAM. Both great, great tunes and I'm like a cat that's got the cream today

its way too early. I'll give you my opinion in a week or two. Both are some of Noel's finest songwise though. So different. I'd give TFOYAM an 8/10 as of right now. Which is a great thing because I think we all know that this won't be the best thing on the album but it is a great track. I wasn't let down at all and smiled my way thru the whole thing. When I first heard that falsetto part in the chorus it was literally like a ray of sunshine. one of the best songs of the year for me.

Idle is an all time classic - 10/10 stuff for me. Right up there with anything Noel's ever done.

The Importance of Being Idle is Oasis' best-executed song.

can't decide. TIOBI is one of the best songs of the last decade. perfect popsong. TDOYAM is good also. takes time to decide how long it lasts

For me, TDOYAM... Just because I've been hit by the "Wonderwall effect" with TIOBI... I've heard it so many times that I rarely listen to it because it can get on mynerves... Shame, as it's a good song

Both about 8/10 for me I think. I prefer TDOYAM more atm but that's because its new but given a few days I'll probably see them about the same.

The Importance of Being Idle is close to a 10/10 for me, TDOYAM is about a 7.5 or 8/10.

So hard. Comparing them as different as the circumstances are is very difficult.
I have the new-song rush from TDOYAM but it could go anywhere from here, it could become an all-time favorite for me or I could grow tired of it quickly.

I like TIOBI, i also like this song but.... The Importance has reached(at least among Oasis fans) "classic status", even if it doesn't compare favorably to the early Oasis stuff and true classics. So i voted TIOBI... but not because it's miles away the better or anything. This doesn't mean i think this new Noel song is or could be a classic, on the contrary, i believe TIOBI is actually a bit overrated.

Impossible to answer. I love TIOBI. One of the top 3-4 post BHN tracks, unquestionably. But the thing about Noel Gallagher songs if that their greatness has a way of sneaking up on you. Didn't love songs like DGA, TIOBI, FD, LU, and especially Lyla, the first couple of times I heard them. But I fell in love with them eventually.
Conversely, some of the songs that sounded immediate to me like THT and GLIO, I'm not that keen on. Noel's best songs are growers-ones where he doesn't "force" the melody--and TDOYAM fits that profile. It sounds like a really well-crafted, lovely song that will get better with age. Whether it'll be as good as TIOBI, we shall see...

Way too early for this, though it's definitely inevitable. TDOYAM may get an unfair shake since TIOBI came first. Gotta let the novelty wear off for a while before ever taking this question seriously.
For me TDOYAM has the potential to be as good or better than TIOBI, but not about to make that call yet.

Too soon. TIOBI has been estabilished a classic over the last years, TDOYAM has been aired 8 hours ago...

NL4E, I'm very surprised you haven't made a thread called, "If this were on DGSS, that album would be perfect... I miss Oasis!" Place it after BTL and before FA.

I voted for The Death of You and Me. I was never really a big fan of Idle...

I really want to like TIOBI, and I realize it's good musically, but I never really got it. Very obviously TDOYAM for me.

I was thinking... if you put a brass solo over the guitar solo in TIOBI it would transform into TDOYAM.

I voted for TDOYAM...but I reserve the right to change my mind. It's still new and I'm excited
This thread was inevitable. The results will be skewed...but I don't know which way is the most substantial
TIOBI has the being put on a pedestal for 6 years...we love our classic Oasis...and TIOBI is well loved. TDOYAM has the benefit of newness.
Be interesting to see the differences in opinion in a few months.
I'll say this...they both have legs.

TDOYAM, partly because of the production and the more detailed arrangement. It's great that Noel goes all in on the brass section etc. Always thought the importance had a 'demo-feel' to it, TDOYAM is not smooth or anything, just bloody well recorded and produced. As for the record, tdoyam is pretty much what you'd expect, and i'm sure the rest of the record will be even better, weirder, wilder and more beautiful.

Just listened to TIOBI, and had to side with that if truth be told. What a classic.

TIOBI is really the better song, but after repeated listens I have far more of an emotional connection to TDOYAM...so this puts me in an awkward place.
